Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTINA FRIESEN Early in the morning of Saturday, February 2, 2013, Katharina (Tina) Friesen (nee Schellenberg) passed away peacefully with her children at her side after a long battle with lung disease. Tina was born on August 2, 1923, the sixth of ten children of Johann and Justina Schellenberg. She was born on a train near Eihkeunen, Poland as her family was fleeing the Ukraine to begin a new life in Canada. Tina, along with her mother, joined her father and older siblings at the family farm in Gnadenthal, Manitoba in May 1925. Tina attended Gnadenthal School and later graduated from Winkler Bible School. She worked in Winnipeg as a receptionist before marrying Peter I. Friesen on June 28, 1958. Together they had two children. She spent many years volunteering at thrift stores and with Women in Mission. Tina is predeceased by her parents Johann and Justina Schellenberg, siblings Johann Schellenberg (as an infant), Lena (Peter) Ewert, John (Edith) Shelsen, Dave Schellenberg, Henry Schellenberg, and Ben Schellenberg. Tina is survived by her husband Peter, daughter Elfrieda (Brian) Bergen and their children Scott, Marc, and Jason, son Ken (Bonita) Friesen and their children Katelyn and Halie, siblings Justina Baerg, Abe (Carol) Schellenberg, Henrietta (Andrew) Sawatzky, sisters-in-law Grace Schellenberg and Eva Schellenberg, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her for her generous nature, the way she cared for others, and her devotion to her family. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Cam Lowden and to the staff of the fourth floor (North) at Victoria General Hospital. A funeral service will be held at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield Street North in Winnipeg, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6 with a viewing prior to the service. A viewing will also be held at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 5K9. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

So sorry to hear of Tina's passing. She was always very welcoming and although we have note seen her in many years she has been in our thoughts and prayers.
