JUSTA (FRIESEN) PAULS It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother, Oma and UrOma on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Concordia Hospital. She was unexpectedly predeceased by the love of her life Henry Pauls, one month ago on January 15, 2013. She missed him so deeply and is now reunited in Heaven with him again. She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her children: Reinhold Pauls, Kaethe Rahn (Hardy), Johnny Pauls (Norma), grandchildren: Tyler Rahn (Jodi), Nathan Rahn (Kristen), Aymee Koop (Stephen), Isabella Pauls, Samuel Pauls, and great-grandson: Oliver James Rahn. She is survived by six sisters and their families; two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and their families. Predeceased by her parents, sister, two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Justa was born on December 16, 1923, to Johann and Justina in Petershagen, Ukraine. During the war years, she, along with her mother and sisters escaped to Germany. Eventually in 1948, Mom and her family were able to immigrate to Paraguay. In Paraguay, life was hot, dry and difficult, but there was freedom and an opportunity at a fresh start. There Justa met Henry Pauls and on July 24, 1949, they were married beginning over 63 years of life together. In 1953, our parents decided to uproot once again and immigrate to Canada where they settled in Winnipeg MB. Here mom worked fulltime in a sewing factory and also helped Dad evenings as they started Pauls North Kildonan Grocery until the arrival of their three children. No job was more important to Mom than being a homemaker to provide for her children. Mom was a faithful member of the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church and enjoyed participating in the ladies group as well as serving on various committees. In her free time Mom loved sewing, crocheting, knitting, reading, and doing word search puzzles. She took delight in hosting family and friends at their home or at their cottage at Lester Beach. Mom was valued and respected because she was so giving with her time and energy. One of her passions was spending time with her grandchildren. Playing games, building lego, having a special lunch date, or simply just talking with them being a listening ear about what was going on in their lives was important to her. They were her pride and joy. The sparkle in Mom's eyes and beautiful smile could light up a room. We will forever love and cherish our memory of her. A Sad Day on Earth, a Happy Day in Heaven! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee. Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service. Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Rd.

  • We are thinking of all of you, and pray that you will have peace. You have so many memories of your dear mother, and they will come up in so many conversations. We remember her smiling, and always being so hospitable. When Peter and I were engaged, we did not know her and your Dad, because we grew up in different parts of the country. They invited us for supper, and we appreciated that very much. The family included us in so many of the family celebrations. Thank you. We will miss her at our breakfast get togethers.
