SOPHIE LAMAGA It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sophie Lamaga (nee Kuz) on February 17, 2013 at the age of 92. She is survived by her loving children: son Myron, and daughter Pat, both of Hadashville, brothers Joseph Kuz of Winnipeg, MB, Nick Kuz of Hadashville, and sister Rose (and Lewis) Kovacs of Minneapolis, MN, granddaughter Lorraine (and Zemon) Forster of Humboldt, SK, grandson Daniel Lamaga, great-granddaughters Aurelie and Hanna, and great-grandson Tristen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Anna Kuz, husband Mike and daughter-in-law Louise Lamaga. Sophie was born in Winnipeg as a premature baby weighing only two and one half pounds. She married Mike Lamaga on October 14, 1939 and lived on the farm in Hadashville all her life. She was a very hard-working woman, always willing to lend a helping hand or extend hospitality. Her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart as shown by her actions. Her interests included sewing, entertaining, cooking, baking, canning, vegetable and flower gardening and picture-taking with her Brownie camera. Sophie had a long-standing love of pets, especially small dogs. Her last dog, a Yorkie/Schnauser cross, was aptly named Lovie . Sophie was always ready to share her homemade bread, cinnamon buns and pies and she often provided care packages from her freezer and cold room cellar. Many people were recipients of her generous home-sewn gifts of aprons and oven mitts. In addition to working as a farm wife, Sophie worked at Pineland Tree Nursery and as a janitor at the Zamek and Reynolds schools. She held honorary memberships in the Women's Institute and the Reynolds Senior Citizens Club. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home for the wonderful care Sophie received while residing there during her last few years. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Hadashville Recreation Hall, Hadashville, MB with viewing one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted for Hadashville Ukrainian Church Cemetery Fund. • My sympathy goes out to Sophie's family. I did home care for her and then worked with her at the care home. She was a special woman and I grew to love her. Her eyes would always light up when she would see me. She called me "My Mary" and I could always count on her to bring a smile to my face when I was having a hard day. I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with you Pat and Myron. God bless and keep you strong at this time. - Posted by: mary schwolman (friend) on: Feb 24, 2013

  • Well Sofie you were a special part of my kids growing up, spending time helping you in your garden or watching my kids standing on chairs in your kitchen helping you make things, especially soup and teaching Alley to sew and you making her Barbie clothes. I think of the time I spent with you and the stories you told me. I will miss you, thanks you were and always will be a very special lady in our hearts. - Posted by: Doreen (Family friend) on: Feb 21, 2013
