ROSE PHYLLIS RIOUX June 21, 1946 - March 20, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Wife, Mother and Nana. She passed away peacefully on March 20, 2013 at the age of 66 years young, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by Armand, her husband and best friend of more than 45 years; four children, Michael (Rachel), Laurie (Scott), Kevin (Sandra) and Richard (Melissa); as well as eight grandchildren, Ethan, Spencer, Jayden, Trey, Kylar, Tyson, Colton and Mackenzie; as well as her siblings and extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Alex and Phyllis Fryza, her sister Jean, and stepbrother Henry. Her kind, generous and loving way will be missed deeply by many. Rose had many passions. She possessed a unique talent for crafting and creating beautiful works that brought joy to many people's homes. Her gift in creating home décor was a passion built on success. She was also very proud of her many flower beds at home and at the cottage. She would spend countless hours tending to each until they were perfect. It was often remarked by many memories made from trips travelled with her husband and best friend, Armand, to many destinations from coast to coast and in between, as well as several to Hawaii. Sometimes the best travel plans were no plans, and they would just go, finding their way as they went. They always said it was the best way to travel. She loved spending time with her eight grandchildren, she held a very special place in her heart for each of them. Sleep-overs and craft-making were a special time at Nana's house. She shared many weekends at the cottage with the older grandchildren, and for months ahead would look very forward to extended visits with Ethan and Spencer, from Calgary, Alberta. A special thank you to Dr. Harris and the staff, especially Rhonda, at the Grace Hospital, for taking such great care of our mom. We know that she was in excellent care all along. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. The funeral will be held at the St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, in Winnipeg, MB on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Fred Olds officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Rioux, Richard Rioux, Scott Harvey, Clayton Hadaller, Danny Rioux, and Honorary Pallbearer will be Ethan Rioux. • Dear Mom, Here we are again, marking another year since you passed away. It's been quite the year. Ethan graduated from university and quickly found a job. He was initially very excited, but unfortunately, that excitement was short-lived due to the working conditions and the people there. He was assaulted while protecting a female colleague who was being attacked by one of the residents. Thankfully, he's okay, though he suffered a concussion and some bruises. The officer mentioned that if Ethan hadn't intervened, his colleague could have been severely beaten or worse. He has since left that position and is now working with physically disabled people. Ethan has set a new goal for himself: he wants to become a firefighter. He's slowly taking courses to make himself a strong candidate when applications open next March. As I predicted long ago, Spencer has found his calling and has committed to becoming a mechanic. He's a natural and is really excelling. He's completed the first level and is about to start the second. They're even entrusting him with service calls for buses that break down on the road. Fitz and Jack are doing great. Though some days they can be a handful, 95% of the time, they're absolute angels. Fitz has a habit of sleeping in the middle of Rachel and me, right by our heads—it’s quite funny. Thankfully, we have a king-sized bed. Rachel is fantastic. I really wish you both had had more time together, as you would have truly loved her. We have so much fun and laughter every day. She's an amazing cook, and you would be pleased to know she's fattened me up a bit. But that’s okay because I’ve never been happier. We got a place in Sylvan Lake with a 38-foot fifth wheel on it, completely fenced in. I can't wait for summer to arrive because I'm going to try growing 100 corn plants. Rachel said this is my last chance, as my past attempts haven't succeeded, likely due to the soil and location. I’m determined to make it work this year. As for myself, this year has been different. While home and social life couldn’t be better, I've followed in your footsteps and was diagnosed with cancer in January. There's a 15-centimeter tumor on my left chest, but fortunately, it was discovered early. The surgery is scheduled for April 9th. They’ll cut across my chest muscle to remove the tumor, and if it's spread to a rib, they'll address it. I have an amazing support network of friends and family, which keeps me positive. Luckily, they don’t think I'll need chemo and can remove it surgically. I’m hoping to be back on my feet in no more than two weeks. I miss you a lot, Mom, but I’m not ready to visit you just yet. Rachel and I have plans over the next decade to buy a condo in Mexico to spend the winters and return here for the summers—six months at each. If you have any contacts who can push XRP to 10,000 a coin, I could even do it sooner, though 1,000 would be amazing too, haha. Love you, Mom. Michael - Posted by: Mike Rioux (Son) on: Mar 19, 2025

  • Hi Mom Here we are one year later, I hate to say it but time is really flying. It’s been ten years since you passed and I can’t believe I am 54. So here we are March 19th we are in Mazatlan and have been here for little over a week. Our friends Matt and Tracy got married here Saturday, it was small, intimate and beautiful. The weather has been different not bad but cloudier and windier than I remember from the past. Either way we are having a lot of fun. To start your boy wonder that you thought so highly of and voted in is cratering our country faster than a cruise missile into aluminum. Enough on that I have already probably gotten censored with our “Free Speech” Onto sad news Ethan’s girl friend of 7 years cheated on him. The day his heart was broken was my biggest fear. We all know how he lives with his heart on his sleeve and would do anything for anyone. As I write this he is doing much better but there was days that it was really rough for him. He is doing really great in university and I am really looking forward to reading some of his papers. They really intrigue me. He has always excelled in school not sure he got that from me lol Spencer my little man, that everyone was worried about but me, has found his calling. He is loving his job and apprenticing to be a mechanic. I know he will excel it’s something he really enjoys. He is also such amazing artist, he definitely has your talents and artistic knack. He drew his own tattoo and then had it copied to his arm it looks amazing He is going for his drivers license and I know he will get it that is one thing that has always puzzled me with him. He has never been in a rush to get it. Such a different generation. Rachel continues to surpass and and excel at her job and company but gets little recognition. I really think that is going to change after this little holiday. My only hope is Rachel doesn’t come home to such a mess that it can’t be fixed. I really wish the two of you had more time together. She is the love of my life, and really loves me for who I am. We laugh and have so much fun together, can you believe we have been together for 16 years and going on ten years married. Time is flying by and it seems to be accelerating. I am doing better than I have in years, I was really close to having a heart attack so I stepped away from everything and went back to being an electrician. I am back on the tools and loving it, my health has improved my blood pressure has dropped substantially and it has taken alot of stress off our home life. I love my wife dearly she was there thick and thin for me even at my darkest moments. Now my only concern is about me and not the other 56 people and projects we have going and why they aren’t being done or over budget. I could no longer shut work off when I left and it was quickly killing me. Kev and Rich turned fifty I wish I could be there but it just didn’t work. We are meeting next month in Vegas, look out Vegas here we come it is going to be a blast. Oh one more thing on Rachel she is an amazing cook and all your worries of me being skinny all my life are long gone. Lol I really think I need to go on a diet. Lol Diesel passed away and I really hope he is up there keeping you company, he was the most amazing dog, companion, friend I ever had. We have a new one his name is Fitz and he is doing everything he can to fill Diesel's shoes and more. Where Deisel was a protector Fitz showers you in love and cuddles. Deisel would sleep on the floor ready to pounce Fitz sleeps in between us ready to snuggle. We seen Fitz and it was love at first sight. He’s such a goof and bed hog but we love him dearly. Jack is getting up in his age and grumpy as ever but I wouldn’t change a thing about him. When we go for walks with him off leash he just takes off with Rachel close behind calling after him till he gets to a petecular spot and then pees looking at Rachel with a look saying I just had to come to this spot to pee lol Can you believe Tequila is turning 16 that little lady still looks and acts like she is four. She is ageless, Jack would give anything to eat her but Fitz loves her. Especially her food, you would think we never fed that dog lol. Time for me to say goodbye and get to the pool to join my wife and guests. I love you and miss you mom. Every butterfly we see will always remind us of you. • Hi Mom - you are still so missed everyday. New house is still great, and Mike has kicked my car out to the street so that he can have a man garage lol....but he did get me command start so it's not too bad. Boys are doing awesome, Spencer will graduate this year, and Ethan is still doing great in school as well. We are looking forward to summer, spending time in the man garage, the yard, the lake and camping. The World is still crazy! Miss you! • Hi mom, here we are another year has passed. The world is no better between Covid and Russia attacking Ukraine, normal is not normal anymore. Boys are doing great down in Lethbridge, Spencer graduates this year. Rachel I could be better we have so much fun together. You would be very proud of her she has managed to put a lot of meat on my bones from her cooking lol. Work is great, I honestly feel like I have a hobby not a job. Miss you lots hope I don’t see you to soon but we will see you again. Love ya mom. - Posted by: Mike (Son) on: Mar 20, 2022

  • Hi Mom......This last year has flown by. New House, and all the work to come with it. We are starting on the backyard this year too. I hope to plant as much as I can, but nothing will ever compare to all the beautiful gardens you had. Life has been busy for both Mike and I, both our jobs have been crazy busy - which we are both grateful as with the COVID still around a lot of people lost their jobs. We have been very lucky. Ethan will live with us for a few months until he transfers to the U of L in August/September. It should be fun. Mike is going to school him on BBQ'ing, and I will teach him some cooking things too.....we said we will try a new recipe every week, but he has to help with it. As for Spencer, not much to tell - as Mike said we don't see him.... Bye for now, and miss you. Mike has been craving your Sauerkraut soup so I will be digging through your cookbooks that I have to see if you have it in there......HOPE SO!! Love you! • Hi Mom, here we are one year later, I miss you everyday. Rachel and I are still like kids in love, we laugh and have so much fun everyday. We have been in our new house for almost a year, love the house, the area and most of the people are really nice and a lot fun. Andrea and the boys will be moving to Lethbridge soon, she was given a great opportunity that couldn’t be passed up. The boys are growing like weeds Ethan is now taller than me, Spencer is quickly catching up. Ethan comes over for dinner weekly like clockwork. Spencer we get to see when he wants something. Someday I hope he comes around and realizes what he is missing. A very interesting thing happened the other night, I got a message from a old friend from the military. I haven’t seen or spoken to him in 30 years. So many memories came flooding back. We are gonna meet tomorrow it’s going to be good to see him again. Miss you very much mom, Rachel and I think of you often. Love you with all my heart see you in my dreams - Posted by: Mike Rioux (Son) on: Mar 20, 2021

  • Hi Mom, Well as usual Mike beat me to telling you everything that is going on. It is a crazy time we are living right now but also exciting and looking forward to moving to our new house. Love you lots and miss you too! - Posted by: Rachel Rioux (Daughter In Law) on: Mar 20, 2020

  • Hi Mom Here we are another year has gone past. Lots happening in the world. There is a flu pandemic going on. Alberta has declared a state of emergency. We are doing our best to stay healthy and beat this. I’m sure we will be fine if not well then we will see you sooner then planned lol. Ethan is in university, his goal to be a police officer has never changed, he is doing great and will achieve his goals. Unfortunately all universities and schools have closed till September due to the pandemic. Spencer is plugging along he is not a fan of school and its a challenge everyday. He is a very smart kid and will do great in life once he figures out what he wants in life. Rachel and I have bought a new house, its currently being built and we will take possession June 1st. We cant wait its everything we were looking for. Low maintenance, two bedrooms each with a ensuite and walk in closet, big garage and a basement that I can turn into a crazy man cave. We went to Maui this year for my 50th birthday, we had a blast the whales were travelling thru the passage and we got to see hundreds. The island was beautiful and the weather was perfect. I even seen one Butterfly which landed on my lawn chair, made me think of you and who knows maybe it was you visiting me. Say hi to our Grand pa’s and Grand Ma’s and everyone else up there. Takecare mom, love and miss you lots. - Posted by: Mike (Son) on: Mar 20, 2020

  • Hi Mom, here we are another year later and what a year. It’s been a really interesting year for Encore its a recession but through hard work we have managed to still prosper. I was promoted and given full reign of the company, Randy is concentrating on other avenues. It has been quite the learning experience between constantly selling, managing receivables and pming projects. I will need to give up the pming of projects as running the company is a major endeavour itself. Made my first quarter goal and we are on track of one of the best years we have had. Memere passed I’m sure you know this as you guys are probably visiting together up there. The funeral was really nice and a lot of people were there. We actually made a little holiday of it and spent a week at the cottage. We really enjoyed that I don't think we have been there in ten years. You will be pleased to know that my wife is a amazing cook and I am no longer some skinny individual. I actually could stand to lose 20 pounds lol. Rach and I have never been happier of all the people I wish you would have had time to spend with it would be Rachel. She is such a special person that would do anything for anybody I am very lucky to have her in my life. We are actually leaving for Honolulu in three weeks we are gonna have so much fun. Spencer now lives with us he is a handful and very much different from his brother Ethan. He is very much like I was which sucks for him as I know all the tricks and bust him every time. He will do fine in life he’s a smart kid he just needs direction and structure. He’s a teen like all teens who thinks he knows everything. It will all work out. Ethan is having his best year ever, he is on the honor roll and graduating. From day one he has been a keener on doing homework which is as we all know complete opposite of what I used to do. Lol he has been accepted to Mount Royal and is pursing a career in criminology. I have no doubt he will be successful. He is on his way to New Orleans in three weeks for a band trip. He saved all his money to do that trip, he works at Southland Busing on weekends and is a very hard worker. We are all very proud of him. Dad and Yvette are doing great you can see they are very happy together and have a lot of fun together. They will be visiting us in May for Ethan's graduation. Kevin and Richard both doing great it was nice seeing and getting together with them and there families. Its always a blast when our three families get together. That’s about it in a nutshell, there is a ton more I’m sure but look in on us once in a while and you will see we are all happy and living well. Love you Mom see you when the butterflies come out. • HI Mom, It's really hard to believe that it has been 6 years since we said goodbye. We have an exciting year ahead of us. Ethan will graduate High school in May and then off to University in the fall. We are hoping Spencer will try for his learners soon - sometimes he still needs a little push to get things done. We are headed to Hawaii in April - your awesome son Mike is taking me for my birthday. Mike is still crazy busy successful at work and he loves every second of it. First day of Spring so we are waiting to see a butterfly so we know you are still here with us. Love you! Miss You! Love Rachel - Posted by: Rachel Rioux (Daughter-in-law) on: Mar 20, 2019

  • Well Mom, here we are one year later and lots has happened this year. Dad has remarried, Yvett is a very nice lady and makes Dad happy which is what we all want. Richard married Amber and it was a beautiful wedding. Between Dad and Richard weddings and the social we have never made so many trips to Wpg in a one year span, so I think we are good for a couple years lol. Ethan is now as tall as me and works so hard in school and has the marks to show for it. He now has a girlfriend that he met at band camp and you can see how much they like each other when they are together. Spencer not to be outdone also has a girl that he would like to be his girlfriend and they are going out this Friday. Spencer is now as tall as Rachel and is so much like me when I was young. Unfortunately for him I know all the tricks. Lol Rachel and I are more in love then ever and all her good cooking( lots of your old recipes) are making me fat. But I have never been happier in my life so I don’t care. Rachel is such a hard worker and generous person. I wish you would have had more time to spend and get to know her. But be assured she takes very good care of me and I know I am very lucky. We miss you everyday, but know you are watching over us. I had a dream a couple months ago about you and I talking and it was so real I felt like I was really talking to you and maybe I was. I loved that dream and while I was very sad when I woke up, I will cherish the talk we had in it. Love you, very much we will see you again someday hopefully not to soon. Lol love you Mom 😘😘 - Posted by: Michael Rioux (Son) on: Mar 20, 2018

Ethan will be getting his learners next week-can you believe it!? And Spencer is growing like a weed! And your son is still amazing in every way ! Love Always Rachel - Posted by: Rachel Rioux (Daughter in law) on: Mar 21, 2017

  • Hello Mom, here we are one year later, and we miss you like crazy. Tough year in Alberta, oil prices crashed and a lot of businesses and people went under. We doubled down on our company, procedures and leadership and we came out better then ever. The boys are growing like crazy, Ethan is now as tall as me and Spencer is just a couple inches short of Rachel. Rach is doing great, they love her at work and she gets to travel a lot. We are all extremely happy together. I know you are looking down on us everyday and you see all the good and bad that happens. Love you lots you are always on our minds. - Posted by: Michael Rioux (Son) on: Mar 20, 2017

  • Mom, it's been 3 years now since your hands shaked and your legs ached. You loved your life and what you were given. Come visit me when I sleep. You are in my thoughts and in my dreams and never forgotten. Love Kevin - Posted by: Kevin Rioux (Son ) on: Mar 21, 2016

  • Mike said it all Mom. We still miss you like crazy and wish you were still with us. We talk about you often with the boys too and they miss their Nana dearly. Waiting for the butterflies to start so we know you are with us. Love You. Love Rachel - Posted by: Rachel Rioux (Daughter in law) on: Mar 21, 2016

  • Hi Mom we miss you very much. It's been three years and a day doesn't go by that I think about you or a memory together. Things here are going great, the office in Edmonton I started is doing great. I did such a good job I was asked to run all of Alberta. I love this job it's a lot of work but it's very rewarding. I would be where I am today without yours and dads encouragement. Thanks for always pushing me to be better. It's funny but we are going through the exact same thing with Spencer right now, we had parent teacher on Thursday. It's as close as a mirror example as you could have between Laurie and I and Ethan and Spencer. Laurie a treat to teach and hard worker... Mike does the bare minimum could be at the top but is to lazy. Ethan is Laurie and Spencer is me lol. We will help him just like you and dad helped me and it will be alright. Love you lots Mom and we miss you a ton. Always thinking of you. - Posted by: Mike Rioux (Son) on: Mar 20, 2016

  • We miss you like crazy Mom. We saw our first butterfly last weekend and all at the same time we said hi mom and nana. We know you are with us always. You would be so proud of Mike and what he has accomplished this last year. He continues to amaze me. Taking very good care of him and your grandsons who are turning into amazing young men. Miss you. Love Rachel - Posted by: Rachel Rioux (Daughter in law) on: Mar 20, 2015

  • Mom it's been two years since you had to leave us. Rarely a day goes by when I don't think of you, we miss you very much. Rachel mastered your tourtière recipe which made me happy and sad at the same time, it was like you were there but not. She is the best and I love her so much, the last night us three spent together was one we will cherish forever. Ethan just bought his first laptop, with all the money he saved doing papers it's quite the system, you would be proud. Spencer loves to cook with me doing all your recipes he's gonna make some wife really happy and mad like me lol. We miss you very much mom, someday we will see you again but till then we will continue to make you proud as you watch down upon us. Love you - Posted by: Michael Rioux (Son) on: Mar 20, 2015

  • Dear Mom, well....it has been a whole year since you left us and I cannot express in any words just how terribly you've been missed. Not a day goes by that I don't find myself drifting in thoughts back to times we shared, many crafting memories or working in flower beds, so many times at the cottage and in the end, hours chatting on the phone. I visit with you often in thought and know you are keeping an eye on all of us. I miss you so much and know you are smiling and at peace. Love you so much, Laurie - Posted by: Laurie Harvey (Daughter) on: Apr 26, 2014

  • Mom, as we come upon the first anniversary of your passing, I remember all the times we shared, at home, the farm and the cottage. I miss our talks - you shared a lot with me and I will always cherish those stories, and pass them down to Colton and Mackenzie. The kids and I talk about you all the time. I often share stories of you, so they continue to remember. I know that was one of your greatest worries once you were gone. I know you are looking over us, the brightest star in the sky! Love you - Melissa, Colton and Mackenzie Rioux - Posted by: Melissa Rioux (Daughter-in-law) on: Mar 19, 2014
