DOUGLAS HALL Mr. Doug Hall, aged 57, of Pinawa dearly beloved husband of Marlene passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Pinawa Hospital. He is survived by his wife Marlene, adored daughters Jennifer, Tracey, Christine and Brandie and treasured grandchildren Sam, Zoe, Danny, Victoria, Dylan and Sophia, brothers Brian and David, many brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Grace, dad Ken and grandson Wesley. Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1 at F.W. Gilbert School, 33 Massey Ave., Pinawa, Manitoba with Rev. Rob Murray officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery. Doug's long career at Josten's Canada resulted in many achievements including making the medals for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, but it was the making of lifelong friends that meant the most to him. After a short time working for Tanco Mines, Doug found his calling in 2010 when he became the Operations Manager at the Ironwood in Pinawa. He felt blessed to be daily living out his dream. His work with the residents of the Ironwood became a true labour of love. Doug, Marlene and the kids spent many wonderful years in their little place on Lee River fishing and restoring an old tub of a houseboat. The "Riparian Queen" was launched in 2001 providing many hours of family fun as "the Clampetts" rolled down the river. During Doug's illness many friends made a real difference with gifts of food, help and support. These kindnesses will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Dr. M. Bruneau and the amazing staff of Pinawa Hospital, Rev. Rob Murray for always going above and beyond for Doug and Marlene. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Pinawa Christian Fellowship directed to Missions or Kildonan Community Church Presbyterian World Service and Development. • Our deepest sympathies go out to Marlene and family. Doug was the friendliest, funniest, and most down-to-earth fellow we knew. We loved our evening dinners on the Riperion Queen. We will not forget the time we played Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Doug had to call a friend for help with the question. Doug was our Real Estate agent when we were looking for a cabin on Lee River. We were shocked to hear of his passing and hearts ache for Marlene. We will never forget the great times we had together. • I met Doug when my Mother, Heidi Broich, moved into the Ironwood. I came from Ottawa to help her get settled. Doug was so helpful and you could call him at anytime and he would be there in minutes. I was out to visit Mom last August and again had the pleasure of dealing with Doug and having long conversations. As you can imagine I was shocked to hear of his illness after I got back to Ottawa. I'm sorry that I never got to meet his family, but you were certainly lucky to have such a loving, caring man in your life. Sending you my deepest condolences and Doug will certainly be missed at the Ironwood. - Posted by: Ursula Streater (acquaintance) on: Apr 01, 2013

  • I had the pleasure of getting to know Doug and the family last summer. I don’t recall ever having met a man who was as resourceful, crafty and hard working as he was. What Doug would accomplish in a morning would take most of us an entire weekend. He did it all for the benefit of his family and friends to accommodate everyone, always thinking of others and how to make them feel more comfortable and at home. He would then book off in the early afternoon to spend time with his family. Whether that was to take the kids out for a tube ride, bringing out pails and water guns to splash around, or playing cards or board games for hours. One of the best memories my son had was when Doug found him a piece of driftwood to carve. My son carved it into a duck and Doug helped him sand it and mount it. My son was very proud of that and he still has it on display in room. - Posted by: Paul La Rocque (Friend) on: Mar 29, 2013

  • I worked at Jostens with Doug, he was my supervisor in the Jewellery plant. Always pleasant and helpful in my training. - Posted by: Linda Sobotkiewicz (co-worker at Jostens) on: Mar 28, 2013

  • We had the pleasure of spending several weekends last summer with the Hall Family at their place on Lee River. Each time we showed up to dock our boat and hang out for the day, Doug and Marlene, and the whole family made us feel "like we were family too". We had many laughs, and even an excursion alongside the Riparian Queen. It was a beautiful summer, and we will treasure the memories from 2012. We hope that Doug is no longer suffering, and has found peace within. We send our heart felt condolences to Marlene and the family. - Posted by: Cyndi and Paul Dureault (Friends of the Family ) on: Mar 28, 2013

  • Doug was a true gentleman, and was always going way above his job. He did so many wonderful things for all the people at Ironwood, staff included. I was always so happy to see him come striding down the halls with that happy walk and smiling face. Always a "Hi Jen! How are you?" and he would wait for your answer. He really wanted to know how you were. My heart goes out to the family and friends who loved him as much as he loved you all. We have lost a beautiful spirit, however the heavens have gained a wonderful Manager, it will run so smoothly now Doug has joined the Angels. - Posted by: Jennie Crosthwaite (co-worker) on: Mar 28, 2013

  • I worked with Doug at Jostens. He was a great man always willing to help and really truly cared about people. A really nice person left the world, but we know he will be keeping an eye on all of us, because that just what kind of guy he is. You will be missed.
