Born: Sep 11, 1931
Date of Passing: Mar 27, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryABE REIMER Peacefully with family at his side, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Abe Reimer, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on March 27, 2013. Dad was born on September 11, 1931 to Gerhard and Agatha Reimer in Schonau, Ukraine (South Russia). Along with many other Mennonites, he fled towards the west in 1943. After the war, unable to immigrate to Canada, they were sent to Paraguay and arrived there in 1947. It was there that he met and married his sweetheart, Margaret in 1954. They remained best friends for over 58 years and came to Canada in 1955. Dad worked at Palliser for over 37 years. He worked hard to support his five daughters and retired in 1992. He and Margaret were able to enjoy over 21 years of retirement, making memories with them on family trips and at the cottage. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Margaret, Katie and Ray Dirks (Lauren and Scott Thomas, Alexa), Esther and Gerald Hamm (Amber-Lee, Jacqui, Kelly), Joanne Enns (Thomas, Samara), Ruth and Ron Pluchinski (Graham), Leona and Andy DeFehr (Julia, Grace, Evan), his brother Peter and Lydia Reimer, and sister-in-law Olga Reimer and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother George. Heartfelt thanks to the staff on GH3 at Health Sciences Centre for their loving care of our dad during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to MCC, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9 or Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery, 600 Shaftesbury Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3P 0M4. The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, Winnipeg, MB. Viewing will be on Monday, April 1, at 7:00 p.m., also at the church, and prior to the service. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030
