DARYL WILLIAM BAKER April 28, 1950 April 5, 2013 Peacefully with his family by his side, Daryl passed away at Riverview Health Centre on April 5, 2013 from Multiple Myeloma Cancer at the age of 62. Daryl will be sadly missed by his loving and caring wife Shelley, his daughter Deanna (Tomasz); sisters Norma and Dorothy (Garry); nephews Jayme (Heidi), Trevor (Cori), Mark; nieces Cheryl (Geoff), Darlene, Danielle, sister-in-law Leslie, and his extended Manitoba Archives family. Daryl was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Emma; and his brothers-in-law Gary and Brian. For over 35 years Daryl was employed by the Manitoba Government, the last 15 years as a Protective Services Officer at the Manitoba Archives and developed many close friendships with co-workers. Daryl had many interests including NBA basketball, curling, and cribbage. He enjoyed making fudge for his co-workers and was often referred to as the Fudgemeister. His co-workers also looked forward to his frequent trips to New Bothwell to purchase the freshest and finest quality cheese in Manitoba. Since 2005, Daryl and Shelley enjoyed their yearly excursions to North Vancouver Island to experience the thrill of watching orcas in their natural habitat and visit with their West Coast friends and family. For the past 15 months, Daryl endured tremendous pain from the cancer. He never complained and always had a positive outlook. His biggest disappointment since becoming sick was missing his daily walks with his grandpuppy Baylie. Daryl received exceptionally good care at 3E Palliative Care Ward at Riverview Health Centre and his family extends heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff there. A very special thank you to Daryl's friend Don and his wife Pat. You both provided support to our family during an extremely difficult time. A celebration of Daryl's life will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Myeloma Canada.

  • I worked with Daryl for many years at Archives of Manitoba where he worked on the Security desk. Daryl always had a big smile for everyone who came into the Archives; that smile and laughter of his just brightened the whole building like a ray of sunshine. The sun shines a little less brightly in the Archives. I will miss my friend. He and Ted are up there brightening everyone's day. My heart goes out to his family. My condolences go to you all of you. - Posted by: M. Clement ((Friend and Colleague)) on: Apr 10, 2013

  • Daryl was more than an in law. He was family. He was a brother and I loved him as such. Daryl and Shelley did so much for me that I will never be able to repay. I will miss you so much. Rest peacefully in the Lord's arms. - Posted by: Leslie Jones (Sister in law) on: Apr 10, 2013

  • I worked with Daryl during my time at the Archives of Manitoba where he was on the security desk. I wasn't from Manitoba and Daryl was one of the people who made me feel welcome and had a friendly smile and word at all times. He had a wonderful sense of humour and I have fond memories of chatting and joking with him. I enjoyed learning about his background during the installation of an exhibit and the archives, during which he was interested and helpful and shared some stories. The sun shines a little less brightly in Winnipeg now. - Posted by: JP McMann (colleague) on: Apr 08, 2013
