I came to know Mr Harder as a teenager through a close friendship with his son Willie from about 1972 until 1975, and as a consequence was in the Harder home on a weekly (or more frequent) basis for much of that time, especially in the summer months. My observation as a teenager in those years was that Mr Harder had many admirable qualities, beginning with his ready smile and generous hospitality. He was a truly kind and accepting person, welcoming of my constant visits, and seemingly always with a kind word for others. I have only fond memories of him. Regrettably, I had, or took few opportunities to see him in the ensuing decades, but have never forgotten the many, many good times at the Harder farm during those formative years. - Posted by: Marvin Hildebrand, Ottawa, ON (friend and former neighbour) on: Apr 20, 2013

My deepest sympathy for the loss of your Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather. You are in my thoughts and prayers. He was one of the sweetest men I have had the pleasure of meeting. The first time we met, he made me coffee and brought out the chocolate blossom cookies, it was the first time i tried them, and he was so happy to see me enjoy them so much, and now they are my favourite. Each time Sharon and I passed through to say hello and visit on our way to the Fargo or Grand Forks, he always gave us those blossom cookies for the road. I think that will be a new tradition for Sharon and I, blossom cookies for our road trips. R.I.P. Grandpa xo, you will be missed, I'll keep an eye on your girls for you. I'm happy you are at peace and with your beloved. - Posted by: Jodi Chymyshyn (Friend) on: Apr 16, 2013

Where do I start talking about my Grandpa?... he was a legend. From memories of a childhood spent on their farm, of Fasbas, of stories of days gone by... even 3 days prior to leaving this world he told me stories. To his and my grandma's dedication to the MCC for many many years.. Grandma sewing baby layettes, grandpa sewing blankets. Everybody wanted those blankets, and many of us were lucky recipients of them. To Christmas's with family and great food, right up to this last Christmas 2012. It is a sad time and a huge loss of a generation for us. I know he is in a better place, and his body isn't in pain anymore, and he is with Grandma where he wanted to be. He had a soft spot and a glint in his eyes for teasing the nurses in Niverville where he lived and lastly in St. Pierre Hospital. And they for him as well. I am very thankful that he rallied back the last two weeks and for the laughter we had on that first week. He was so funny with sarcastic little remarks, and teasing us. R.I.P Grandpa. hug Grandma for me :) - Posted by: Sharon (grand daughter ) on: Apr 16, 2013
