ALEXANDER PETER DANYLIUK
Born: Feb 28, 1991
Date of Passing: Apr 12, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER PETER DANYLIUK Our dear boy, Alex, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the age of 22 years. Left to cherish his memory forever is his family - Mom and Dad: Kirsten and Boris, younger brother Nick, grandparents: Irene and Peter von Kampen, and Halyna Danyliuk, uncles and aunts: Mark and Coreena von Kampen, Victor Danyliuk, Linda Danyluk, and cousins: Stefan, Andrea (Travis), and Andrew. As well, his band family includes his best friend, Jay Jensen-Erikson, Eric Clefstad, and Kevin Hogg. Alex was predeceased by his grandfather Petro Danyliuk. Alex was born on February 28, 1991 in Winnipeg. He grew up as a happy, well-rounded child, always doing his best at whatever he did. He started his school years at Whyte Ridge Elementary, followed by Henry G. Izatt Middle School, and finally graduating from high school at Vincent Massey in 2009. Alex was always a bright and inquisitive student and worked hard for his good grades. Early and later mentors include S. Tsuchi, Rudi Peters, uncle Mark, Jeff Gordon, Bill Kristjanson, Kevin Radomsky and Tim Jones. He was involved in various activities, including soccer, karate (brown belt), and swimming (Bronze Medallion). Alex also loved the outdoors. He enjoyed many summers at Camp Assiniboia, Moose Lake and the Folk Festival. His favourite time of year though was taking the last week off school when we always rented a cabin at West Hawk Lake. He loved those years playing, hiking and swimming, and even swam to Peanut Island with his mom when he was just 11 years old. Those were the days. His real love though was his passion for music. By grade 8 Alex was only interested in playing the drums. His mathematical brain made an ideal student for excelling in school band, and weekly private lessons began which he kept up to this day. He became involved in anything music related, including playing with his Uncle Mark's group in what started as a contemporary worship service at our church, First Mennonite, and branched out to other opportunities. Alex continued to jam in our basement with friends and musicians, until he formed his first band, 4th Floor, which eventually evolved into The Revival. We welcomed Alex and his friends with open arms (and full dinner plates) and gave him the chance to find his niche. Not knowing what Alex wanted to do after high school, he tried out and was accepted into the Jazz Program with the Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba. While in school, Alex also continued to work at Mona Lisa Ristorante, where he served as a bartender/waiter, faithfully until the end. Joe and the rest of his staff had become like family. Although Alex had top grades at University, it was not the route to take for him. He decided what he really wanted was to pursue his dream of making it in the music world with his band. Dad took a great interest in videotaping the bands over the years and we have a lot of archival footage to review and enjoy. Dad's pushi-ness' provided Alex with the impetus to move out and manage his own affairssomething he did extraordinarily well right to the end and beyond. Just recently The Revival was signed by Management Company Pipe and Hat, and is presently in pre-production. Alex was stoked about working with their new producer and the latest songs they'd written. Everyone Alex encountered has been deeply impacted by an amazingly gifted and talented individual, as well as a beautiful human being. His kindness and thoughtfulness will live on in our memories. Alex's drumming is the heartbeat of the cosmos and the pulse of humanity. Alex lived his life to the fullest. He loved his family and friends and was there for everyone in every way. He was an active listener, always eager to learn, and made everybody feel good. We will miss that beautiful smile, that goofy silly grin and those drummer faces'. The last time we saw Alex was the Monday just before his passing. He'd come over for dinner and spent a wonderful evening together reminiscing and enjoying life as he pursued his dreams. Cremation has taken place. We ask all who knew Alex to be honorary pallbearers for we all carry the enrichment of knowing him. Alex had Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. Please support the Heart and Stroke Foundation. There will be an Alex Danyliuk Memorial Trust for Music Development set up by the family and a Celebration of Life Memorial Concert in the near future. The family would like to thank Klinic, Paramedic, HSC and Winnipeg Police Staff. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Kathy Koop officiating. My name is Angel, I work at Center Stage Music in Humboldt, Sask. i Work for Greg (my boss) at the music store and everytime The Revival would come play in town they would come into the music store and i have met them a couple of times now. I especially remember Alex because i'm pretty sure he was the one that carried on most of the conversation... lol He was always very excited about playing in town and Alex was the guy with all the answers to my millions of questions I had when i first met them. When they came into the store again another time they were playing in town as they walked into the store Alex had asked me if i still remembered them? And I of course said "Yes i do" I could tell the first time i met the guys that Alex loved being in the band and that was his passion. He loved being on the road with the guys, spreading their awesome music. I just want to send our thoughts and prayers to the guys in the band and to all the families and friends. Alex will be so deeply missed by all who had the chance to meet such a wonderful young man who always had the biggest smile on his face. We at Center Stage Music will always remember Alex. Heaven has another Angel, may Alex forever play his drums in heaven.... - Posted by: Center Stage Music (Humboldt, Sask.) (Fans and Friends) on: Apr 20, 2013

Although I did not know Alex extremely well, it was very clear from the moment I met him that he was down to earth. A true character. Nothing fake about him. And very charming, a true gentlemen. I say that because during one evening at the Revival house, thinking I could be good at drums, he let me play his. He didn't laugh, making silly faces, only gave me courage to continue in the hopes maybe I'd be good one day. I'm actually a guitar player but thanks to Alex, every once in a while, I'm a drummer too. Xoxox - Posted by: Fayth Thomas (Fan/Friend) on: Apr 19, 2013

Our deepest condolences to the Danyliuk family from the Scarpino's. It was an honor and a genuine pleasure to have known Alex. I saw a lot more of him than I did Boris so he kept me informed on how the Danyliuk's were doing every time we talked. He will be missed but never forgotten by the many people he touched. - Posted by: Carmine Scarpino (Family Friend) on: Apr 19, 2013

So sorry to hear about "AL-P". I only have memories of him as a baby and toddler but I remember him being a very happy and very loved baby. We used to get together for play dates with our kids. We lost touch once we moved into different areas of the city but I often think about you. My heart goes out to you Kirsten and your family. Know you are being sent lots of virtual hugs. - Posted by: Margaret Vidruk (old co-worker of Kirsten's) on: Apr 19, 2013

Alex was a good friend and co-worker back when I worked at Mona Lisa. He was pretty much adored by everyone including myself. His willingness to make everyone smile and laugh made it easier to enjoy having shifts with him. Every time I see him, he convinces me to come to one of his shows which I only managed to come to a couple. When I did, I was amazed at how talented he is on stage and his band definitely made me have a good time. There were a few times, when he would hang out with myself and other staff members outside of work, and his presence definitely completed the circle-the genuine peacemaker making everyone happy. It was such a pleasure to have known him and I miss him so. He will be remembered. - Posted by: Natasha Byrne (Friend and former co-worker) on: Apr 18, 2013

I remember the very first time I ever went to Mona Lisa's to have supper, (before I even started working there) Alex was one of the first staff members I really noticed there, thanks to his extremely long and wonderful lashes. Shortly there after I began working there and decided to nickname him "Lashes". I must say, he did not take a liking to it lol, but none the less, let me call him that. I was so overwhelmed with excitement the first time I heard him play the drums. I stood in the corporate lounge of Mona's clapping and cheering!! He blew me away! Working with him was a joy. He never had anything bad to say about anyone, or anything. No matter how crazy of a night it was. He was very easy to get along with and made me laugh!! He had a relaxed manner about him and positive attitude that I adored. It was only just beginning what me and many knew would have been a promising career in the music industry. A couple of friends and I were talking on the Monday previous that we were sure it would only be a matter of time before we saw him on Much Music. Alex, I miss you. You will ALWAYS be remembered. - Posted by: Nadja Chiaramonte (friend/co-worker) on: Apr 18, 2013

I only saw Alex perform once, at The Oak in Transcona. We were blown away by his drumming and commented how important a good drummer is to any band. Alex was definitely a GREAT drummer and will be missed. I bought a Tee shirt and CD (with autographs) as well as videotaped the show. I will wear the Tee shirt with pride knowing I was fortunate enough to see him and his bandmates perform together. R.I.P. Alex "DEE" - Posted by: Brett Smith (Fan) on: Apr 18, 2013

Me and Alex worked together for about a year, and everyone who works at Mona Lisa knows that everyone is like family. Every time I knew I was working with Alex, I was so excited because he always made my night so much happier, even when the worst of things happened. He was always asking how you were and interested in whats new and so very genuine. When I got back from New York, he told me all about how he followed every single one of my photos on Instagram and loved how I hash-tagged them, to make it easier to follow. So when his time came to go to Toronto, he would do the very same thing. But he forgot! When he got back I reminded him, and he had said from then on he would never forget to do that because he knew I was always going to bug him about it. He was so passionate about his music and we would always talk about music and what we loved and what we didn't love. But I will always remember Alex by his smile, his laugh, and how he was the only one to be able to pull off a skinny tie at work. You will forever be in my heart, and always be missed. Love you buddy. - Posted by: Laura DeLuca (Friend/Co-Worker) on: Apr 17, 2013
