Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOLVEIG DOROTHY BALLANTYNE (nee ISFELD) December 1, 1931 - April 12, 2013 Peacefully, on Friday, April 12, 2013, Dorothy passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her brother Jon and sister Lilja. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Walt, and children Cameron (Bev) Ballantyne and Alison (Wally) Lecuyer. She will be missed and remembered by grandchildren Colin (Deana) Ballantyne, Bradley Ballantyne, Morgan Lecuyer, Brandon Lecuyer, J'aime (Wes) Killbery, Jocelyn (Sean) Legault, and Nicole Legault. She was also very proud of great-grandchildren Easton and Tamsen Killbery, and most recently Peyton Ballantyne. She is survived by one sister, Jonina (John) Cadoreth, and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born in Gimli, MB, 1931 to Bjorn and Gudny Isfeld. She was raised in a fishing family and very proud of her Icelandic heritage. She married Walt in 1950, after he was sent to the Gimli Weather Station to replace guys for summer vacation by Environment Canada. They resided in Winnipeg, with Dorothy working as a legal secretary to Harry Walsh; a job for which she always held fond memories. In 1960, Dorothy and Walt moved to Stonewall and built their home, in which they resided for over 40 years together. Dorothy loved to read, cook, and also kept herself busy with beautiful knitting creations which she worked on daily to keep her arthritic hands busy. None of the grandchildren ever had store bought mitts, and the girls always got little bells on theirs to make them special. Dorothy had a great fondness for animals, especially dogs. She treated each of her pets over the years with much love and affection. In 2001 Dorothy was placed in Rosewood Lodge Care Home in Stonewall where she received outstanding care and often referred to it as home'. In January of 2012, Walt moved into Deer Lodge Centre and in June of 2012, Dorothy and Walt were finally reunited again after 10 years of living apart. Their children worked tirelessly to have them reunited, as this was always their wish. With much appreciation by family to Deer Lodge Centre, Dorothy and Walt were able to share a room and once again eat every meal together. Unfortunately, Dorothy recently fell ill with pneumonia and passed quite quickly. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME STONEWALL (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
