PAULO KASIAN January 29, 1926 - April 19, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our much loved husband, father and grandfather at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 87. He will be forever remembered and always missed by his loving wife Eileen (Spiwak); children Brent and Janina (David) and grandchildren Robert and Michael will cherish his memory. He is also survived by his sister Nan, brother Jarvis and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Tetiana, and sisters Anne, Mary and Olga. Paul was born in Tolstoi, Manitoba. He joined the Winnipeg Police Force on March 19, 1956 and married his soul mate, Eileen, on October 21, 1961. He was well known for his pristine, golf green-like grass and well maintained yard, and could often be seen walking or riding his bike around the neighbourhood "just checking things out". He was also known for his love of a hot cup of coffee (with a sweet treat) and a deck of cards. He retired after close to 30 years of dedicated and exemplary service on February 1, 1986, but that was not all Paul did. Being an extremely hard worker and always wanting to provide the best for his family he was well known for the numerous, additional jobs he did on his days off, most notably going door to door selling lawn dressing by the basket or yard. In retirement, Paul and Eileen enjoyed many years together as Winter Texans. Paul became a resident of Holy Family Home in November 2007. We would like to thank Dr. Terry Babick and the staff on the 5th floor at Holy Family for their care and support, especially David, for always treating him with the utmost dignity and respect. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue at Watt Street. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandchildren Robert and Michael Goldenstein, nephew Lonnie Kasian, Dr. Greg Palaschuk, Dr. Robert Palaschuk and Peter Palaschuk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2W 1T9. CHRYSTOS VOSKRES KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

Our thoughts are with you Eileen, Brent and Janina at this time with the loss of Paul. We remember your beautiful yard and Paul riding his bike. Brent and Craig were the best of friends. As you probably know that Craig's son was named Brent, after his best friend. Sorry we were not able to attend the funeral. - Posted by: Vienna and Norm Black and family (Old Neighbours down the lane on Helmsdale) on: Apr 29, 2013

Aunt Eileen, Brent and Janina, My heart goes out to you! I pray that Jesus will help you through this! It was always fun going over to your house! Uncle Paul was always jolly, good humored, and made us feel special, you all did! I dont know how he produced the nicest golf putting greens for his lawn. He made the worlds greatest steaks (unmatched). It was a thrill when he would come over to my baba's house in full police uniform on his mortorcycle, the kids in the neighborhood enjoyed to it too and always behaved well after that. I will miss Uncle Paul very much! - Posted by: Ron Webster (Son of Nancy Webster ( who is long time best friends with Eileen)) on: Apr 26, 2013

I can't put into words at how I feel. I came into HF on Monday and Tuesday and didn't see you and paul sitting at the 'spot'. It crossed my mind that maybe Paul was sick. I was shocked to read today that Paul died. My prayers and thoughts are with you today. How fortunate we believe in the Lord and know that Paul is now in a better place. May God grant him the everlasting peace and may God bless you, too, Eileen in the days ahead. Paul was so lucky to have a wonderful wife like you who never missed a day to be sitting by his side. I'm going to miss both you and paul whenever i go past 'the spot" in HF. Promise to say a prayer. The two of you together gave us such a strong statement at what life is all about. Aunt Eileen, Brent, and Janina, The highlight of our yearly/twice yearly trips to see Baba in Winnipeg was always spending time with Uncle Paul and you. Even though the foursome of adults (you, Uncle Paul, Dad and Mom) were busy having a good time, you both ensured the five of us were entertained and welcome for a visit. Of course, when Brent and Janina were born it just added to the fun. All of you were Aunt, Uncle, and cousins to us and are family that we love. Uncle Paul is a part of my earliest memories, particularly when you came to California for a visit (pre-kids) and brought surprises to Bloominton Minnesota (Brent and then Janina in the back seat). I also remember when he took us, with Dad, to tour the new City Hall plaza in Winnipeg, he was proud to show it off. I love that Uncle Paul gave me my toast to the bride at the wedding supper Albert's parents gave to us. He was so great and made me feel very special, particularly since my Dad and Mom were not able to be there. I am glad that I stopped to see him the last couple of times we were in Winnipeg. Uncle Paul was a wonderful part of my life when I was growing up; I will always be grateful for that. Rip Paul - The first time I met Paul was at an early age, He drove his Dad and Mom to visit my Parents at our Caliento Farm and stayed overnight. I thought highly of him, he always made time to Say Hi and have a General Conversation. Our Condolences to Eileen and Family. - Posted by: John and Linda Kasian (My Dad John[RIP] and Paul were first cousins -I am a Second cousin) on: Apr 23, 2013

Our deepest sympathies to you Auntie Eileen, Janina and Brent. I will always remember Uncle Paul in his policeman's uniform. I remember him giving me a ride to somewhere in his police car and wondering if everyone would think I was a criminal. (I don't think he let me sit in the front seat.) I know you have many wonderful memories to help you through this difficult time. Love to you all. Barb, Arlandus, Taylor and Evan Lowe - Posted by: Barbara Lowe and Family (Neice) on: Apr 23, 2013
