MYROSLAVA DERZKO Peacefully, on Ukrainian Easter Sunday, May 5, 2013, Myroslava passed into eternal rest in her 100th year of life. Born on February 15, 1914 in Stryj, Ukraine, to Anthony and Olena Mykytka, Myroslava immigrated to Canada in 1938 to marry Michael Derzko in Kapuskasing, Ontario. Subsequently, they moved to Smithville, Ontario where they made their home and raised their family. Michael passed away in 1961. In 1970, Myroslava relocated her family to Winnipeg where she worked for many years at M and S Meat Market until retirement. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Nicholas (Christine), Jerry (Claudia) and Lydia; her grandchildren, Larissa Dzulynsky (Myron) of Toronto, Natalie Dmytrijuk (Andrew) of Washington, DC, Anastasia Taskovski (Bill) of Massachusetts, Michael Derzko of Washington, DC, Maria Derzko (Corey) of Saskatoon, Christina Steffes (Brett), Matthew Derzko of Edmonton, Taryn Derzko, Vanessa Derzko; as well as several great-grandchildren. Having been educated as a school teacher in Ukraine, Myroslava instilled in her children the love of learning and the value of education. She leaves a legacy of dedication, having sacrificed her comfort, time and resources to ensure that her children received the opportunity to strive for their dreams. She taught the virtues of honesty, goodness, hard work, perseverance and the precept of the Golden Rule. More importantly, Myroslava taught by example. She was truly a "Lady", not only well spoken and dressed, but she always embodied the spirit of generosity, grace and humility. Myroslava's family expresses their sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff of Holy Family Home (3A South, St. Anne) for their unfailing and compassionate care of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. When Myroslava was asked if her needs were being cared for, she replied that she felt that she was in "the best hotel"! Divine Liturgy will be sung 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11 at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave., Winnipeg. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Derzko, Brett Steffes, Patrick Fiola, Andrew Malo, Greg McLean and Jerry Sorokowski. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Home or St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT! CHRYSTOS VOSKRES! KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
