Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEROME NORBERT SCHAEFFER (JERE) January 16, 1936 May 8, 2013 Suddenly on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 Jerome Norbert Schaeffer aged 77 years of Stonewall passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Survived by his loving wife Patricia Carol; three daughters Darla Jean (Robert) Lambert; Darlene Joan (Perry) Sytnyk; Patricia Mary (Rodney Johnson). Grandchildren Erin Blair, Jodi Patricia-Anne, Tara Darlene Lambert, Laura Kathleen, Breanne Carole and James Thomas Sytnyk. Three brothers Ronald; Dennis (Joan) and Larry (Pat); also by three sisters-in-law Heather Corbett, Jean Rootsaert, Joan Holliston and their families. There are many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Hubert and Mary and sister-in-law Beverly. Jere was born on January 16, 1936 in Handel, SK. Saskatchewan was one vast dust bowl at the time and there were no crops in the area. The government gave assistance to encourage people to move to more fertile areas during the dirty 30s. In the fall of 1937 along with his parents and brother Ron the family moved to the Good Hope District. In 1941 the family moved to farm in the Dundas District and Jere attended school there. Eventually in 1947 they returned to the Good Hope District where they purchased farm property and built their home. Jere farmed with his dad and did carpentry work. On February 21, 1956 Jere met the love of his life Carol Slater of Balmoral, MB. In the fall of 1959 he joined the R.C.A.F. and was reunited with Carol. They were married September 3, 1960 in Cormac, ON at the foot base of Foymount Radar Base. Jere and Carol started married life on the base at Parent, PQ where their twin daughters Darla and Darlene were born. In January 1962 they were transferred to Bagotville, PQ where they remained till September 1964 at which time they moved back to Stonewall where Patricia was born. Jere worked at Stony Mountain Penitentrary for nine years as a woodworking instructor. Later he started his own company "Craftmaster Cabinet Ltd". He worked as a master craftsman cabinet designer and builder for over 25 years. His work allowed him to travel and work at his trade in many areas as far away as Rankin Inlet N.W.T. He was always the dad who could fix anything and everything when any of his three daughters broke something. Jere was involved in variety of community organizations. He did volunteer work with the Kinsman and was very proud working on Kinsman Lake before the grand opening in 1956. He was a Oddfellow member and a legion member for 48 years. In 1985 Jere became a charter member of Stonewall Lions and eventually a life member. After a traumatic brain injury Jere spent over five years in Rosewood Lodge Personal Care Home. His background growing up on the farm gave him a love of farm life that followed him his entire life, from helping brother Larry to son-in-law Perry on their farms during busy seasons. He was always the one on the farm that anyone could count on to fix any machine, tool, etc. A private family memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Stonewall. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME STONEWALL (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

Conscientious community volunteers both, Jere and Carol were the unofficial "greeters" at the front door at Rosewood for many years after Jere's tragic accident so those of us who had loved ones there got to visit the Schaeffers first. Always a bright part of the day. The truest tribute to a man may be his life's work. I've had the privilege of seeing the product of Jere's trade both the beautiful handcrafted furniture in his home and other places. If you live close by, go to the library to see what is truly a monument to our community in the furnishings he left behind there. We can only hope his craftsmanship will stand there forever and bring joy and beauty to many more generations as they ask "who built it"? - Posted by: Jim Millar (Friend, fellow Lion, Lion Past President) on: May 13, 2013

We had the pleasure of knowing Jerome & Carol for years. I had the opportunity to work with Jerome for years with the Stonewall & District Lions Club. He will be sadly missed in the community. - Posted by: Ralph & Shirley Sinclair (Friend) on: May 11, 2013
