ANNE LION (REMPEL)
Born: Jun 10, 1919
Date of Passing: May 08, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE LION (nee REMPEL) 1919 2013 After a lengthy battle with cardiac problems Anne left this world surrounded by family at 2:25 p.m. on May 8, 2013. Anne is survived by her three children, John (Del), Garry (Barb), Carol (John) Ellis, and four grandchildren, John Paul, Lukas, Kyllan and Trenton and great-grandchild Jackson Phillip. She is survived by her siblings Bill Rempel (Syl), Henry Rempel (Kathleen), Margaret Maddess, Martha Plett (Alvin), and Richard Rempel (Gwen) and their families. She is also survived by brother-in-law John (Ann) Lion; nephews Jim (Liz) and Robert (Cyndi) and their families. Anne was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Victor Joseph in 2012. Also predeceased by her parents Dietrich and Elizabeth in 1983 and 1985 respectively and siblings Maria in 1927, Margaret in 1930, Aganetha in 1937, and Elizabeth (Betty) in 1985. She was also predeceased by her son James Eric in 1971 whom she loved dearly. Anne was born in Aberdeen, SK on June 10, 1919. The family lived and farmed in the area during Anne's early years. She often spoke lovingly of her life growing up on the farm with emphasis on her grandparents Jacob and Elizabeth Buhler. In 1928, the family moved to Hague, SK where Anne attended Steele school. In 1942, she attended Rostherner Bibelschule school where she was an "A" student. She worked at many different jobs in Saskatchewan and later in Manitoba after the family had relocated from Saskatchewan to farm near Austin, MB in 1944. On March 8, 1947, Anne married Victor Joseph Lion. Together they had four children and Anne was a stay at home Mom working hard to keep the children fed and clothed. In fact hard work was a way of life for Anne. She was Mom by day and contractor in the evenings working together with husband Victor to repair and upgrade a series of seven houses. Each time they sold an upgraded house, it allowed them to buy a bigger place to house a growing family. After the children had grown to a more self-sufficient age, Anne re-entered the workplace. She was a talented seamstress and put her skills to work in the retail industry. She worked for many years at Peacock Corsetry in Polo Park and retired from that establishment. Anne and Victor loved boating and fishing at their "little piece of heaven", their log cabin near Pointe Du Bois. There was always some discussion about fishing prowess/luck between Anne and Victor. Suffice it to say Anne held her own in that regard, her patience, determination, and skill paid big fish dividends. There will be a celebration of Anne's life on Saturday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. in Winnipeg. A reception will follow the service at the same location. Anne has been cremated. Interment at the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery will take place at a later date with immediate family attending. Anne's family would like to thank; Dr. Deurksen, the staff of the Donwood Nursing Home, the staff of the Comforts of Home Care (especially Rosey Podworniak), and the staff of the third floor of Concordia Hospital, all staff of the Emergency Department, and ICU for the care given to Mom. Rest in Peace.

My sister, Anne was a teenager when I was born, so my memories of her began when she was a young adult. What springs to my mind is her clear and lovely singing voice, It seemed to me that she could sing the cares of this world away. It is my prayer that she is singing again along with a host of the heavenly angels. - Posted by: Henry Rempel (Brother) on: May 25, 2013

It was my privilege as a teenager to be welcomed into the Lion family, especially by Anne, mom, Lion. Being part of the family has meant a lifetime of being welcomed into their home and sharing in the love of a mother who was kind and generous. She was always happy to see you and she always "did the best she could", and that was a helluva lot. Sadly she has given all that she could to those of us who remain and it will be our duty as her offspring, family, and friends to carry on her legacy. May she rest in eternal peace. Love, Norm, Pat, Del, Bob, Danielle, Jayson, Shar, Cade, Sandy, & families. - Posted by: Norm Norris (friend/son) on: May 22, 2013
