GUNTHER ERICH HARDT 1951 2013 Gunther passed away May 13, 2013 at St. Boniface Hospital peacefully after a long and courageous battle of illness due to heart failure. He fought the fight and gave everything he had to the very end. Gunther was 61 years old. Gunther will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 31 years Linda, his children Tiffany (Steve) Kapitany of Winnipeg, MB and Ryan (Kerry) of Comox, BC, stepchildren Nelson Butler (Amanda) of Surrey, BC and Faye Lynn Drew of Peoria, Illinois and grandchildren Brendon, Jenna, Riana, Michael, Keondra and Cooper. He is also survived by two brothers Heinz (Susan) of Mission, BC and Rudi (Minna) of Winnipeg, MB, along with many nieces and nephews throughout Germany and British Columbia. Gunther was predeceased by his parents Fritz and Frieda and brother Horst. Gunther was a talented painter for over 47 years. He received his journeyman status at Red River Community College. He also updated his education with a certificate of Painting and Decorating in British Columbia in 1993. He worked for the union for over 10 years. Gunther was well known by many contractors and builders for his beautiful woodwork finishing which appeared like shining glass when completed. He taught many young men how to paint including both of his sons. They became talented painters and have made a comfortable living because of this. Gunther was patient and kind, and enjoyed sharing his trade however, with perfection and demand. Gunther loved the outdoors; camping, fishing and going to Balaton Beach with his daughter and her husband. In earlier years, he enjoyed camping with Linda at Camp Neustadt. There were many breakfasts and coffee early in the mornings, lots of laughter, joking and stories over an evening campfire. He cherished these moments. A sincere thank you to all nursing staff and doctors caring for Gunther on 6E at St. Boniface Hospital. Their undivided attention was limitless and he was treated with dignity and compassion. At Gunther's request, cremation has taken place and a service with family was held in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home. Till we meet again
