Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONIKA MILLER (nee CHRISTIANSEN) April 21, 1945 - May 24, 2013 It is with heavy hearts the family of Monika Miller announces her passing after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Mom is preceded by her parents Edward and Ella Christiansen, and her father-in-law Robert Miller. Mom leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Morley, her children Erica (Mike), Brenda (Daryl), Roberta (Jay) and Brian (Michelle), and her grandchildren Christopher (Ciji), Amanda, Brendan, Adam, Damon, Parker and Christian. Mom also leaves behind her brothers Jens, Christian, Peter, Eddy, and her sister Erika and their families. Mom immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1952 with her family. They settled in Gardner Mines, Nova Scotia. In 1963 mom left Nova Scotia and moved to Ninette, Manitoba to work at the TB Hospital. There she met dad and the rest, as they say, is history. They married in June of 1965 and moved to Winnipeg where they began their family. Mom was a devoted wife and mother, who we were lucky enough to have as a stay at home mom. Mom loved us with all her heart. She was a talented sewer, knitter, and cook. She was the mom who made the cupcakes for all the school functions, the one who made the costumes for the school plays. She was mom to all the neighbourhood children who knew they were always welcome in her home. When mom became a grandma all grandchildren were greeted with a blanket handmade by grandma that will always be held close to their hearts. Grandma's house was where you went for cookies, cheese sandwiches and hugs. Mom will be lovingly remembered and forever missed. Her absence leaves a hole in the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to have known her. You are finally without pain and we wish you peace. The family would like to thank the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the care in the last days of mom's life. We would also like to thank our neighbours on Lansdowne for their support during mom's illness. A Memorial Service will be Friday, May 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue, Winnipeg.

Auntie Monika and Uncle Morley always had an open door and a place to sleep, whenever we all came to town. Auntie Monica's hospitality was inspirational and unconditional. I wish I had come to visit more. My condolences to Uncle Morley, Erica, Brenda, Roberta, and Brian. - Posted by: Natalie Smurthwaite (Niece) on: May 26, 2013
