MARIA DYCK
Born: Nov 13, 1930
Date of Passing: Jun 03, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA DYCK Peacefully on June 3, 2013, Maria Dyck passed away at the age of 82, surrounded by family. Maria is survived by her daughter Karin (Gary) Ledoux; sons Peter (Katy) Dyck, John (Karen) Dyck and Larry (Elly) Dyck; grandchildren Andrew (Corrie), Lucanus (TeraLynn), Thomas (Natalie), Justin, Phillip, Kimberley, Lindsay, Darren (Vicky), Jessica (Brooks) and Alex; great-grandchildren Kyla, Zachery, Nevin, Matthew and Aubrey; her brother Peter (Katie) Loewen, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada, Brazil and Germany. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gerhard in 2010 and her parents Peter and Maria Loewen. Mom was born on November 13, 1930 in Steinfeld, Ukraine. Her life as a young girl was full of hardships and loss. During the war, she fled west with her mother into Poland and eventually on to Germany. There she met and married Gerhard while they both worked for MCC. Seeking a better life, after the war they immigrated with her mother to Curitiba, Brazil and started a dairy farm and began a family. In 1957, with sons Peter and John, and her mother, they then immigrated to Winnipeg and their family grew to include Karin and Larry. Mom / Oma was devoted to her family and loved her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren beyond measure. She was an inspiration to all around her and always there to help and advise. Despite a very difficult early life, she was optimistic, and would remind her children to count their blessings and to serve others in Christ. Maria was a lifelong volunteer and served in the Church ladies group and with the Westgate Thrift Store, the MCC Thrift Shop and many others. Mom also loved her garden and spent many hours hard at work growing vegetables and flowers. Her cooking was exceptional and she was happiest when the whole family would come over for meals and the house would echo with stories and lots of laughter. The family would like to express their appreciation to those who cared for Mom in Concordia Hospital during her final weeks, including the nurses and aides in N1 and especially Dr. Carey Isaac. Her last months were greatly comforted by the spiritual care, love and guidance of Pastors Don and Kathleen Rempel Boschman. A celebration of mom's life will be held Friday June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mennonite Central Committee. Goodbye and thank you Mom and Oma.
