Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • What devastating news! My heart goes out to all David's family and friends. Be strong and my prayers are with you all. I remember his smile the most. - Posted by: Lora Lee Rowsell (friend from the past) on: Aug 16, 2013

  • Such sad and shocking news. Worked with Dave at Milner Ridge many moons ago. Dave loved his Volkswagens and we talked cars non-stop when working together. Followed his boxing career too, was always impressed that he stuck with it. Kirk must be devastated. Dave was a tough son-of-a-gun who lead with fairness and sensibility. He was an old soul with traditional values of fairness and respect. The world is not as good a place as it was the day before this tragedy occurred. - Posted by: Paul "Willy" Williamson (Friend) on: Jun 24, 2013

  • Knew Dave for quite awhile at the Ridge. Always friendly, worked along side with the inmates, treated them with respect, as he treated everybody. He was always "Dave", or "Mr. Pond". Gave my wife and I some places to go when we took a fall vacation to Nova Scotia (Durty Nelly's etc.) last year. Dave (Mr. Pond) was a good guy and Correctional Officer. I will miss seeing him in the MSU, and at the Ridge. My sincere condolences to his family. A good man has passed. - Posted by: Cal Dancyt (Co -Worker) on: Jun 24, 2013

  • Words cannot begin to express the sadness of the loss of Dave. Dwayne worked with Dave for a number of years on the bush crew detail, and always had a funny story at the end of the day working with Dave. We have watched numerous boxing matches, Dave always had that huge smile, even in the middle of a fight, he would look over to his friends supporting and cheering him on with a huge grin on his face, quite a character. His life has been cut short tragically, and for all of us that knew him are thankful for the memories and are proud to call him our friend. RIP David Pond - you are dearly missed - Posted by: Dwayne and Charlene Fitkowsky (Co-worker and friend) on: Jun 24, 2013

  • We knew Dave because he worked with my Dad (Bill Yanciw). We would see Dave during the Christmas holidays and summertime when we would be in for a visit. Dave was many good things to many people and we echo the kind words spoken of him in other tributes. To us, Dave was an animal lover, a dedicated athlete, an upholder of justice and a person you would be honored to count among your friends if you were lucky enough to have Dave as one of yours. Dave was an easy-going, even-keeled person. He was always positive and upbeat in his gentle, kind way and was like a ray of sunshine when he entered the room. He was taken from us too soon. R.I.P. Dave, you will always be remembered. - Posted by: Marc & Jodi Hurley, Seattle, WA (Honored friends) on: Jun 24, 2013

  • First, let me send my condolences to your family. Your obits in the Wpg Free Press sparked a similarity. My dad, who was Henry David Pond, just passed away last November in Winnipeg. He went by the name David Pond. It is very difficult to lose a loved one but may time heal your pain and sadness. My heart goes out to you. - Posted by: Janice Aubin (None) on: Jun 23, 2013

  • I had the privilege of knowing and working with Dave for 2 years and can honestly say there was no one nicer and no one better to model and learn from both at work and in life. Dave was a great inspiration to all. I'm thankful for the privilege of knowing him. - Posted by: Ed Turnbull (Co-worker & Friend) on: Jun 22, 2013

  • I never had the pleasure of meeting Dave in person but was at the scene of the accident shortly after it happened. I've been praying for him every since. I am so sorry for you loss. - Posted by: Jacquelyn Landry () on: Jun 22, 2013

  • Andrea - to you and your family we express our sincere condolences. May fond memories be your guiding light in these difficult moments. - Posted by: Iwona and Marv Mooney () on: Jun 22, 2013

  • I would like to extend my most sincere sympathy to the Pond family on the loss of Dave. I went to CO school with Dave at Milner Ridge and then worked with him for over 4 years. He has such a terrific sense of humour and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. We would joke all time time about our places in the seniority list and I was always teasing him about how much candy he could eat. A great guy, gone far too soon. Unfortunately I will be out of the country and cannot attend either Sunday or Monday but please know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you and his work family at those times. - Posted by: Tanya Cutting (Friend) on: Jun 22, 2013

  • I had the pleasure of working with David when he first started at MRCC. He was such a personable, likeable young man and was a credit to our workplace. He was always positive and had a calming strength. My sincere condolences to the family. David will be missed. R.I.P. David. Marian Seeley - Posted by: Marian Seeley (X colleague) on: Jun 20, 2013

  • This week we lost a very dear friend---a unique and gifted individual. We had the pleasure of being in Dave's life and watched him grow into a caring, warm, and successful young man. We will certainly miss Dave and his visits to our home. God Bless you Dave. R.I.P. - Posted by: Audrey & Earl McDonald (Glace Bay, Nova Scotia) (Friends) on: Jun 20, 2013
