HUGH ISHMAEL STEWART After a lengthy illness Hugh Ishmael Stewart passed away peacefully on June 24, 2013 at home in his own bed. The Stewart Family would like to thank the many medical personnel involved with Hugh's care over the years. Your help was much appreciated. A big thank you to the emergency personnel involved with his passing. A special thanks to Janice, Boswell, Lance and Joe for spending time with him, he certainly appreciated your company. Hugh was born on March 22, 1927 in Trinidad. He worked as a pharmacist for several years in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Over time, Hugh developed a burning desire to help troubled youth and wanted to make a career change to pursue this passion. He attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts Degree (Psychology), and later his Masters Degree in Social Work. As a Social Worker until his retirement in 1987, Hugh was involved in the criminal justice system for youths, taking part in various remedial initiatives, finishing his career as a Senior Probation Officer. Over the years he volunteered with the Age & Opportunity Centre, Kinsmen, and the Trinidad and Tobago Society of Manitoba amongst other organizations. He had a passion for sports, particularly cricket and soccer, and loved to follow playoff hockey. He was a gentle, kindhearted family man that supported the goals of his family members in whatever dreams they pursued. Hugh is survived by his wife Esme, his son Clayton (Marcia) and their children Joshua, Jasmine, and Jada, his niece Rosalind "Gemma" White-Abraham (Len), his nephew Kelvin Baksh (Sandra) and their three children, Lisa, Kevin and Sean, his nephew Trevor Walsh, his cousin Joe Collins, and his extended family in Winnipeg, New York and Trinidad. • Our sympathies to the family and our thoughts are with you Clayton, because I know that he has been a great role model to you and at this time I would like to say I wish we were closer, because you realize how important family is, when a wonderful member and part has been lost to us. The grief will pass and the joy will return for I understand because his brother (my father) passed 13 years ago, I speak from experience, it all gets better.
