HARRY ALFRED PEARSON Our father, Harry Alfred Pearson of Teulon, Manitoba, passed July 31, 2013 at Deer Lodge Centre at 93 years of age. Harry was predeceased by his beloved wife Alma in 2008. He leaves to mourn his brother, Joe Pearson (Willie), and his children Ken (Helen), Elizabeth (Bill), Leslie (Jean) and Kurt (Connie). He will be lovingly remembered by his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was born on July 12, 1920 in Winnipeg, MB. In dad's earlier childhood, his father's employment led to many moves including California and Vancouver Island and finally settling on a farm near Teulon. Dad enlisted in January, 1942 with B Squadron, 12th Manitoba Dragoons in which he served four years. The majority of dad's service took place in Germany as the driver in the 18th Armored Car Regiment. He married Alma Dicks on January 30, 1946, after returning from the war. Family and community were dad's focus. He served the community as a member of the United Church Board and as a Sunday School teacher, was president of the bull test station, and member of the school board and Legion. He was a 4-H leader and was involved in the Boy Scout program. It was important to him to provide a broad range of experience for the family through travel and he nurtured a respect and love of nature in all of us. Dad led by example instilling good work ethics, responsibility, honesty and generosity and was always quick to help a neighbour. His philosophy of always doing your best was evident in his farming practices. He was on the Department of Agriculture's Tour of Farms for the University of Manitoba for several years. In later years dad and mom enjoyed travelling the North American Continent and overseas. He began to hobby farm including exotic birds and bison. He dug and stocked a trout dugout so, on visits, his grandchildren could fish. Dad loved reading a wide variety of subjects. He once read the entire set of Compton's encyclopedias and commented, "I don't remember everything I read." The family would like to thank Dr. Graham and nursing staff of Stonewall Hospital as well as doctors and staff at Deer Lodge Centre. A funeral service will be held at MacKenzie's Funeral Home in Teulon on Saturday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3R6.
