EMIL WITTENBERG Emil Wittenberg, aged 94, died peacefully on August 6, 2013, being called home to his Lord and Savior. Emil was predeceased by his wife, Olga and eldest daughter, Rose, as well as his brothers Fred, and Lou. Emil is survived by his children, Irma, Ed (Helga), Doris, Lilly; grandchildren, Anita, Peter (Jenn), David (Stacey), Jeffery, Sarah, Nadia (Matt), Kristianna, Sonja; great-grandchildren Rielle and Katelyn, son-in-law Art and sister, Olga, and brother William. Emil was born March 7, 1919, in Kamionka, Poland. He immigrated to Canada after the war, in 1948 and settled in the Whitemouth area where he bought a farm and worked for his brother in a logging operation in the Whiteshell. Emil and Olga were married in 1949 when Olga came to Canada to join him. Emil farmed, worked on the railroad until 1966, then worked as the Custodian of the Whitemouth School until he retired. Emil loved being busy and did a variety of jobs until about 89 years of age. Keeping busy helped Emil stay young and enjoy each day. Emil and Olga traveled together, going on cruises, and visits to their children in Germany, Alberta, and his brother in the Bahamas. Since the death of his wife, Olga, in October, 2012, life was not the same for Emil. His health deteriorated in recent months. Emil had a heart attack at his home and passed away shortly afterwards at the Health Sciences Centre. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, of the emergency ward for their sensitivity and care during the short time we were there. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Pancreatic Cancer Canada. Friends Funeral Service, 204-339-5555.

  • Emil was a nice man. I remember his slow smile and warm greeting. He always seemed to be busy with some task. I know my children who attended school in Whitemouth spoke well of him. My deepest sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Carol Ans (acquaintance) on: Aug 11, 2013

  • My heart goes out to the family of, my favorite buddy, Mr. Wittenberg. He was more of a best friend & secret keeper! Some friends and I, grew to become Mr.Wittenberg's 'kids' as he listened to our babble, our troubles and laughed with us. I cannot recall anyone-even today-who was as kind and wonderful as he. You felt safe telling him yer fears and other 'gotta get it off your chest' dilemmas. He often spoke of his wife and children with such great love & admiration that it restored my faith in hope. Thank you Mr.Wittenberg for helping me get thru some very brutal family times. God Bless you! P.S. I'll look you and the little Mrs. Up, when I see you again.
