JACOB PETER WIEBE September 27, 1949 - August 12, 2013 Jake was born in Altona, Manitoba, where he grew up on the farm with his parents Jacob and Justina Wiebe, and his sister Dorothy and brother Edward Wiebe. After high school Jake moved to Winnipeg where he attended the University of Manitoba and studied science. It was there that Jake met his future wife Sandra (Sobkowich). It was "love at first sight" and they were married in 1973 in Carberry, Manitoba. Jake and Sandra lived in Winnipeg for a short time, and then moved to Steinbach, Manitoba where they lived for two years, while Sandra was teaching. They returned to Winnipeg where they made their home from 1977 to 1992. Their first son Sasha was born in 1991 and shortly after that they decided that as they both grew up on farms in rural Manitoba, they would return to the country. They bought acreage in the Stonewall area where they built their home. They have lived in the Stonewall area since 1992. Their second son Christopher Wiebe was born in 2001. Jake's first electrical related job was working at BA Robinson in Winnipeg, then JR Stevenson Manufacturing, and he was currently employed by EECOL Electric in Winnipeg. Jake loved family gatherings, sports events, and his new riding lawn mower. He tolerated well all the arts activities that he was obliged to attend and was seen so often at these arts events that he was dubbed a "culture vulture", much to his amusement. Jake loved to create, invent and build. He could repair anything. He enjoyed carpentry, and designed and built decks, garages and sheds. While working on these activities he was shadowed by his faithful four-legged companion, " Truffles". Jake was involved in many community activities, including curling and being president of the Stonewall Curling Club. He coached youth soccer with the Stonewall Youth Soccer Association for 17 years, including this year. He was very proud to coach his team to victory when they won the 2005 Recreational Division Soccer playoffs in Winnipeg. Jake was a courageous man, "an awesome dad" and a caring husband who will be greatly missed. Honouring of Jake's life will take place at the MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. • I am sad to see my friend passing on to glory. I remember well the days of university, rooming together and cooking for each other. Then he met Sandy and life changed direction. Our God is a God of all comfort and deep lasting peace. May Sandy, the boys, and the extended family experience this comfort and peace during this time of grieving. May God be with you, and may you experience His Presence at this time. Norman - Posted by: Norman Siemens (Friend) on: Aug 18, 2013
