JOHN SCHROEDER John Schroeder passed away peacefully August 18, 2013 at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 93 years. He is survived by his wife Katherine; children Lydia, Gordon (Joan), Steve (Caroline), Leah (Don), Tammy (Steph); 10 grand-children and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by children Helena, Albert and Brenda. John was born in Halbstadt, Manitoba on November 17, 1919 and was the oldest in his family. He was raised in Sommerfeld until he was in his teens when his family moved to Abbotsford, BC. John married Katherine Schroeder on August 17, 1947 and they just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary the day before he passed away. John and Katherine moved to Paraguay in 1948 and returned to Canada at the end of 1953. When they returned to Canada, John worked for Canada Cement for a few years, and then worked at the University of Manitoba in Animal Sciences until he retired in 1986. John was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church for over 50 years and has resided at Bethel Place since 2010. His faith was central in his life. John shouldered many adversities throughout his life with a strong faith in Christ, and a deep devotion to his family. John will be remembered as a loving, gentle, and quiet husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The Funeral Service for John Schroeder will be held Thursday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford Street in Winnipeg with burial at Mennonite Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. also at the church. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030
