IWAN KRYSKO 1922 - 2013 On Monday, August 26, 2013, with his family by his side, Iwan Krysko, father and grandfather, passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 91. Iwan leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters Irene (Karl) Koenig and Mary Krysko, and grandchildren James, Kristina, Laura (Darren), Shannon (Dan) and Carrie. He was predeceased by his wife Nina, parents, sisters and other relatives in Ukraine. Iwan was born on June 15, 1922 in Krasiw, Ukraine. His early years were spent as a member of the Association of Ukrainian Veterans (O.Y.K.). In 1949, he immigrated to Canada with his wife, Nina, daughter Mary and family. Soon after arriving to Winnipeg he was employed by the City of Winnipeg and then the Canadian National Railway where he retired on May 31, 1985 at the age of 62. Iwan was an active member of the Ukrainian community, belonging to the Ukrainian Canadian Institute Prosvita, the Seniors' Club Zoloti Vorota, and was a longtime member of the Ukrainian Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga. Keeping up on current affairs around the world and in Ukraine was of great interest to him and he always enjoyed going to the local senior's club to talk with friends about recent events. He was known for his gentle manner and kind heart and always wanted to help others. His primary concern was always for his family and grandchildren. He was a loving grandfather and took so much pride in his grandchildren's endeavors and accomplishments. His happiest times, that always brought a smile to his face, were when they were with him. Dido will always be remembered for his caring and generous nature, advice and stories he shared. Spending time outdoors, fishing at the cottage in Kenora, gardening - in particular tomatoes, tending to his apple tree and sharing the fruit were some of his favourite times. He also enjoyed cooking and made delicious soup especially borscht. Your memories will always have a special place in our hearts and we will always miss you Dido. Panachyda will be sung 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 also at the Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to all the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home and Seven Oaks General Hospital for their compassion and caring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day Unseen, unheard, but always near Still loved, still missed and very dear. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

  • My husband, Bruce, and Iwan were next door neighbors at the Maples. Perhaps they will now be neighbors up above. Iwan and Bruce were always so concerned about each other. Iwan loved his family so very much and you all were so good to him. I got to know Iwan and daughter Irene as we spent time chatting at the Maples. Cherish your memories of Iwan. He was a kind and gentle man. My deepest sympathies are with you all. - Posted by: Delores Lackey (acquaintance) on: Aug 30, 2013
