HENRY BESTVATER Peacefully on August 27, 2013 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, with his family at his side, Henry passed away at the age of 87. He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary (Goosen) and her family, and Henry's children Irene Siemens, Ron Bestvater (Lina), Linda Lagasse (Renald), and Larry Bestvater; Henry's grandchildren Rachel Siemens, Jacquelyn Leicht (Steve) and Ryan Siemens (Sandra), and Lianna Bestvater, Michael Bestvater and Sean Lagasse and great-grandchildren, Cody Leicht, Kyle Leicht, and Isaiah Siemens. He is also survived by his brothers Jake (Mary), John (Shirley), sister-in-law Brigitte Bestvater, the Epp family, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Helen (Epp) in 1998, his infant sister Tina in 1930, his brother Abe in 2006, and his sister Helen Peters in 2013. Born on September 21, 1925, in the village of Steinfeld, Ukraine, Henry immigrated to Canada with his parents Abram and Margareta and sister Helen in 1930 settling in Grunthal, MB. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service with Winnipeg Hydro. He had many hobbies that included travelling, fishing, automotive repair, carpentry, electrical work, gardening and especially loved puttering around in his workshop. He volunteered for the Mennonite Disaster Services which took him to various locations in the United States. Special thanks to the home care workers and staff at the Niverville Credit Union Manor for their loving care. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB (viewing prior to service). After the reception, interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville or to the Mennonite Disaster Services, available at the service.

  • My thoughts go out to Irene, Ron, Linda, Larry and Mary. I have so many fond memories of Uncle Henry and his great sense of humor.
