RICHARD NORDAL July 21, 1939 - September 4, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad and Afi, Richard Nordal at the age of 74. He was predeceased by his wife Jona and his parents Jonas and Maria Nordal along with his in-laws Olga and Thor Johanneson and Joe Palsson. Left to cherish his memory are his children Roxanne (Darcy) Kozub, Greg (Pam), Natalie (Mark) Klym and his grandchildren, Nicole and Paul Yaremus, Emily and Bethany Nordal, ShaeLynne, Brenna and Meagan Klym. His grandchildren were so important to him and they will miss his smiles, hugs and especially his tickle rubs. Also mourning his loss is sister Marlene (Dave) Taylor, brother Clifford (Patty), sister-in-law Rosalind (Einar) Vigfusson, nieces, nephews and cousins. Dad spent his life on the family farm in Geysir. He completed Grade 9 at Island School and also took a Diesel Mechanics course in Edmonton. Dad had started off trying different jobs such as fuel truck driver, mechanic at Viking Motors, school bus driver and even some custom swathing before settling down to farm with his dad and setting up his seed cleaning business. He got to know people from all over and could tell some stories about the different people he would meet. Dad was also involved in NorthStar Seeds from the onset and continued to follow its progress over the years. Here again he made lifelong friends. The farm was always a busy place with lots of hustle and bustle. Many people entered the yard with different duties, anywhere from the regular seed plant workers to other trades people for jobs Dad had on-the-go. Richard enjoyed chatting with the numerous truck drivers that would come at all hours from all over Canada. When the local farmers stopped by, Dad always had time for a quick visit to talk farming. He continued this until his retirement. I guess our Dad wasn't busy enough as in the 1990s he and Mom spent their time going to auctions and found a passion for antiques. Mom had a keen eye for the furniture and Dad would work his magic in creating a replica of damaged pieces. They enjoyed sharing stories of their long days at the auctions, their prizes and the ones that "got away". He also created and built kitchens in their home and cottage. After Mom's passing Dad reconnected with his long time friend, Alice Bjornson. They enjoyed trips, concerts, shows and good times for many years. Dad was a wonderful man, Afi and friend. He helped us all in many special ways. We are going to miss him and his stories which he could bring to life so vividly. Thank you to everyone involved in Dad's care and to MacKenzie Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's memory to the Geysir Cemetery, Box 796, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0.
