Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Jake was a dear and valued friend since 1968 and one who I will greatly miss. I loved his heart, his humour, his high work ethic and moral compass. A proud husband, father and grandfather and one who made me laugh inumerable times. May God be with you my friend. - Posted by: Don R. Lussier (Former work colleague and friend) on: Sep 17, 2013

  • Jake was a father figure, a mentor and a great neighbor. Father to my best bud and most long standing friend from grade one. Jake was a man of very few words but when he spoke, you listened. Whether he was helping us build a go cart when we were kids or getting his hands dirty with the latest beater we were working on when we were teens. Jake was always there quietly to lend a hand or give advice when you needed it most. Later in life when we became next door neighbors that trend continued. My kids wandered into the Olfert yard and household without knocking like it was their own. Then asked if Esther had any fresh baked cookies on hand (which she often did). All the time Jake was there smiling from ear to ear, he loved it. Often times I'd be working on a project at home and hear a voice from over the fence "hey Brad you need a hand". He always had a project on the go, the man never sat still. Most of the time they weren't for himself. He was fixing or building something for his kids, neighbors or friends. Jake was a great man, one of those people who make the world a better place. He will be sorely missed by myself and my family. - Posted by: Brad Derksen (Friend) on: Sep 17, 2013

  • Uncle Jake was the youngest of my mother, Katherine's brothers, and he was one that I got to know the best. We didn't get to see each other very often but when we did, we always enjoyed our visits. Both Uncle Jake and Aunt Esther were very kind and generous to me and to my family. He will be dearly missed. With love, Betty (Unrau) Kraft and family. - Posted by: Betty (Unrau) Kraft (Niece) on: Sep 16, 2013

  • I'm so sorry to hear of Jake's passing. I always enjoyed dealing with Colleen's parents when they came into the credit union either on business or to see their daughter. A very nice man! My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family, Esther & Colleen. - Posted by: Liana Klapecki (Friend/Past co-worker of daughter Colleen) on: Sep 16, 2013
