Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCYNTHIA SOKOLIUK (nee SKRUMEDA) April 26, 1922 - September 21, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Cynthia was born in Sirko, Manitoba and passed away at the Riverview Palliative Care Unit in Winnipeg. Cynthia will lovingly be remembered by her sons; Bill (Verna) and Walter (Cheryl), her grandsons; Shane (Alex and Brenley), Sheldon (Tanya), Marshall and stepgrandchildren Lauren and Matthew. Her sister Helen, sisters-in-law Ann, Olga, Pam and Elsie as well as numerous nieces and nephews will also feel the loss of this wonderful lady. Cynthia was predeceased by her parents Petro and Elana Skrumeda, her husband Steve, siblings Domka, Lawrence, Frances (Peter), John, Peter, Sophie (Walt), daughter-in-law Pat, and numerous in- laws. Cynthia was in her glory when her family was home, especially on Ukrainian Christmas and Easter. She adored her grandsons and was overjoyed to meet her great-granddaughter, Brenley. She was a very social person and a gracious host to all who came to their home. Cynthia was a well-respected, life-long member of the St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox church and served with the Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years. She had true faith in her beliefs, tirelessly supporting her church and community as well as simply enjoying the companionship of singing in the choir, caroling, and all church activities. Cynthia lived most of her life on the farm in Sundown and spent her time tending to her gardens, cooking, canning, baking and sewing. She was a perfectionist and it showed in all of her endeavors. In her later years, Cynthia moved to Winnipeg and continued to enjoy cooking and baking until her health limited her activities. She kept her mind sharp by reading, copying recipes, doing word search puzzles and playing solitaire. Our family would like to sincerely thank Home Care for keeping her well and safe at home for so long, and to the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for the comfort they provided to Cynthia and us as well. Prayers will be held Thursday, September 26, 2013, 7:00 p.m., at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel-150 Penfeld Drive in Steinbach, MB. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox church in Sirko, MB, with interment to follow at the parish cemetery. I remember growing up in Sundown and how hard Cynthia would work to keep her garden beautiful and her yard so well taken care of. She never ever complained. She was quite the lady. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sokoliuk family. - Posted by: Allen & Rhonda Levenec (cousin and godmother) on: Sep 26, 2013
