Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN SMERCHANSKI On the wings of an angel, Helen entered Heaven's gates on Monday, September 23, 2013, at the age of 91. Prior to Helen's passing, she had been a resident of the Betel Home in Gimli for the past two years. Helen was an excellent cook, gardener, pet lover and sewer. Helen took pride in preparing meals for family and friends, and loved to show off her lovely flower garden. Helen also gifted many family members and friends with her beautiful quilts. There was absolutely nothing that Helen could not mend or make over. Over the years, she collected a large library of cookbooks and she loved to watch the cooking channels. Helen had an unwavering faith in God. No matter how she felt, she faithfully attended church. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph of 49 years, who passed away on March 29, 1993. Also her parents, John and Annie Geluch, brothers Mike and Andrew Geluch, and her sister Mary Stetkewick. She is survived by her sister Lena Stetwick, nieces Linda (Ron) Vermeulen, Cindy Stetkewick and nephew John Geluch. Helen was a strong woman who always saw the best in everyone. She was extremely loving and compassionate to all she met. We will all miss and cherish her beautiful smile, comforting counsel and loving advice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Betel Home (Gimli) or the Gimli Animal Shelter. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel Teulon. The world has truly lost a rare soul. Her compassion and caring will be forever appreciated by families of the residents she helped unselfishly at Betel Home. Even in her declining health she did her best to help. God Bless your journey Helen, you will be missed. I will always remember what you did to help my Mum. With love from Pat & Josie. - Posted by: Pat Nuspl (friend) on: Sep 26, 2013

I have been working with Helen for many years folding the linens at Betel once a week. We had many conversations and I got to know her well. She was the fastest linen folder and took pride in her work, did not have much patience with the slower ones. She also knitted many dish cloths for me and we learned together how to make those fluffy scarves. I shall miss her. - Posted by: Eva Haddad (Volunteer at Betel) on: Sep 26, 2013
