PETER VOGT Peter Vogt, with his wife Ruth at his side, passed away on September 25, 2013 at the age of 74 after a 15 year battle with cancer. Peter was born on November 17, 1938 in Osterwick, Ukraine to Heinrich and Marie (nee Epp) Vogt. Peter was five years old when he along with his mom and siblings immigrated first to Germany and then to Volendam, Paraguay. After 11 joyous years during which he worked as a teenage cowboy, they immigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg. Peter worked many various construction jobs throughout his working career. The last 14 years of his career were spent working for Winnipeg Building & Decorating. These were his "best working years". He fell in love with Ruth Walter and they were married in 1963. They were blessed by the births of Waldy, Wendy, and Ronald (who died in infancy). Peter was also predeceased by his parents, six siblings and his parents-in-law. He is survived by his wife Ruth of 50 years, son Waldy (Anita) and their children Caleb and Hope, daughter Wendy and one sister Anna Heise. Funeral services will take place on Monday, September 30, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, 570 Sharron Bay, Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff at Clinic 3 CancerCare for the phenomenal care that Peter received, and his in-home palliative care nurses as well as the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care for their compassion and gentleness in Peter's last days. He often commented on your amazing gift of showing love while doing your jobs. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Peter's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Room 1160 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 (204-787-2197). Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

I worked with Peter in the 1980s at Winnipeg Building and Decoration. Peter was a very nice and friendly person. I liked him a lot. - Posted by: Lennart Lundqvist (friend) on: Oct 08, 2020

Waldy, I remember your dad smiling every time I saw him. He was always cheerful. Your dad is at rest with the Lord and probably having some good chats and Yerba with my dad in Heaven. May the Lord comfort you and give you peace. - Posted by: Reinhold Pauls (former co worker of Waldy) on: Oct 01, 2013

Uncle Pete was the one who loved to sing around the campfire. He would sing to Tante Ruth and she would blush. He always ate those sunflower seeds and was great at catching squirrels and chipmunks, but he always let them go. He was always smiling and always friendly. What a special guy. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Dianna Auer (ne: Rempel) (Family Friend) on: Sep 29, 2013
