DAN STASIUK Dan Stasiuk passed away at home September 27, 2013. He was born August 17, 1914, one of twelve children on a farm situated in the RM of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, to Nykola and Maria (Basaraba) Stasiuk who had emigrated from Western Ukraine to Canada at the turn of the century. Dan attended Halicz Elementary School, Dauphin Collegiate and then Normal School (teachers' college). Later on he received his B.A. and B. Ed. degrees from the University of Manitoba. He started teaching in 1935 in different schools in the province and finished off in the Winnipeg School Division from which he retired in 1973. During the Second World War Dan served in the R.C.A.F. for two years. Other than teaching over the years, he pursued a variety of interests including courses in upholstery, electrical trade, bookkeeping and real estate sales. More recently, Dan took courses in the U&R Income Tax so he could do voluntary work for Revenue Canada helping out people with low incomes or those who had difficulty completing their tax returns. He was a long time member of the Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers. Of all the studies he did, he found Biblical studies to be most pertinent and inspiring in his life. His faith in God through Jesus Christ gave him a purpose to life. He and his wife have been members of Calvary Temple Church since 1970. Dan was predeceased by his parents and all his ten siblings except one brother. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elsie (nee Korotash), his brother Dr. Joseph Stasiuk, his sisters-in-law Isabell, Rose, Martha, Olga, Jeanne, Ann, Helen and Anne; also by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday evening, October 2 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler and Henderson Hwy. Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave St. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calvary Temple Missions.

  • I will always have wonderful memories of our summer visits out west and how Uncle Dan was our personal "Taxi Driver" and "Tour Guide" (along with his assistant ,my Auntie Elsie). You opened your doors to accommodate and your hospitality was priceless. Always put everyone else first and made sure everyone was taken care of. Your visits to Hamilton especially for my wedding was very special and thank you for your touching speech. Never a frown, always laughing and telling jokes. You really touched the hearts of those around you. I always wondered how you could find time for yourself when you were so committed to helping others. You will be sadly missed but always remembered. - Posted by: Gail Buonamici ( and family Joe, James and Aaron) (Uncle) on: Oct 05, 2013
