FRANCES ELLEN DUFFEY (nee NOVAK) April 6, 1925 - October 1, 2013 Fran's family sadly announce her passing on October 1 at St. Boniface Hospital. Her stay there was brief and comfortable, with many thanks to the wonderful and caring staff. Fran was born into the community of Pine Ridge and it was there she spent her youth and later returned to teach. She moved to St. Vital where she raised her family and spent the remainder of her life. Fran's extended family includes the congregation of her much beloved Parish of St. Mary Magdalene where she was an active member. Service will be held at St. Marys Church, 3 St. Vital Rd. at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9. In lieu of flowers, donations to this church would be greatly appreciated in Fran's memory.

  • I first met Fran when I joined the St. Mary Magdalene family in the mid 90's. Our friendship grew during the period that I spent at St. Mary Mag. and upon my return to Barbados in 2001, we kept in touch usually through cards at Christmas time and the occasional phone call. While I am now unable to fulfil the promise made in our last chat about a month ago, I will be eternally grateful that we did have that conversation as I never expected it to be our final one. Fran was a beautiful, loving, gentle person and she will be greatly missed. May her soul rest in peace. - Posted by: Hazel Burnett-Jordan (Friend) on: Oct 07, 2013

  • I was asked a while ago how long I had known Fran Duffey. In all honesty I cannot remember not knowing her and family. Growing up down the back lane from the Dufffeys many, many hours were spent back and forth between households. In the more recent times with the passing of Bob and my own mother Lillian. Fran and my father's friendship grew. With Dad's passing in 2010, Fran made a comment to me "please don't forget about me". How could we! Fran was always an important part of my youth. Her loyalty, kindness and friendship to my Father, myself, my wife and children.... she was family. it is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Mrs. Duffey, a life well lived, a great friend, a true lady, we will miss you dearly. - Posted by: Scott Sugimoto (Friend) on: Oct 05, 2013
