EILEEN MARY TORCHIA December 25, 1921 - October 11, 2013 Peacefully, after a long illness, Eileen Mary Torchia (nee Arsenault), slipped away to her final rest. Predeceased by her husband of almost sixty years, Tony, and her eleven brothers and sisters, she is survived by her son Darryl Torchia, her daughter Arlette Anderson (and husband Bryan), her son Nino Torchia, grandchildren Melinda Vandenberg (and husband Rob), Miranda Morrison (and husband Andrew), Elizabeth Torchia (and partner Paul Leed), Nathan Anderson, Andrew Torchia (and wife Ashley), great-grandchildren Jesse Vandenberg, Gordon Torchia, Josh and Cody Vandenberg, Kylie and Emma Morrison and Scarlett Torchia. Born and raised in a large Acadian family in Prince Edward Island, she married Tony Torchia in 1945 and moved with him to his home in Transcona, Manitoba where she lived for the rest of her life. She worked for many years in the garment industry in Winnipeg, first as a sewing machine operator and later as a supervisor. She loved to travel, especially taking cruises to Alaska, to host large Italian Sunday dinners for the extended family, to read and to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active in her church community, taking on many responsibilities and ministries throughout the years, and she attended Sunday mass as long as her health permitted. Her funeral will take place on Thursday, October 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke Street in Transcona, with Fr. Edouard Bonin presiding, interment to follow at Green Acres Cemetery, Highway #1 at Navin Road, inside the Perimeter. A luncheon will then be served at the Blessed Sacrament Parish Hall. Her children would like to thank mom's special friend, Thu, as well as the wonderfully dedicated and caring staff at Concordia Hospital's N1 North Ward. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or any organization funding research into Alzheimer's disease. Arrangements in care of Green Acres Funeral Home & Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin Rd. 204-222-3241 Friends wishing to share condolences can do so at www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

  • Nino, both Ken and I send our deepest sympathy, regarding the loss of your Mother. There is never a right time to be ready to accept the death of our loved one. I have tried to contact you but that task was not simple. I tried again to night and I read through her obituary, and was sure I remembered that you mentioned you mom had some connection to P.E.1. Connect or visit sometime soon, your Godson is 26. Support all your family who are hurting and all the memories from the past will someday be a main topic, but we hope by then, you will all be able to share stories and laugh of the silly times, and know your mother will never be far any of you.
