EDITH STEINTHORSON (HJALMARSON) (nee PROCTER) Peacefully in the early morning of October 17, 2013, Edith passed away at the Victoria General Hospital. Mum was born and raised on the family farm in Woodlands to Marjorie and James Procter. She attended school in Woodlands and continued at Success Business College in Winnipeg. Mum worked at Sunlife Insurance Co. until her marriage to Arman Hjalmarson in 1953. They started their family in Woodlands, moved to Stony Mountain and then in 1960 moved to Stonewall. Mum had a passion for gardening, sewing, knitting, baking, golf, crib, and grand kids, and definitely not in that order. Mum had a long and very enjoyable career with the Town of Stonewall, until the introduction of computers that is Mum enjoyed both her co-workers and clients. Mum was predeceased by her first husband Arman in 1971. In 1975 she married Lloyd Steinthorson and they enjoyed many happy years until his death in 1996. Mum was predeceased by her parents Jim and Marjorie Procter, brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Thelma, Leo, and Grace Hjalmarson and Jim Stuart. She is survived by her five children Dawn, Brad (Sharon), Kathy (Doug), Stephen, Laurie, and step daughters Elaine and Lori. Grandchildren, in order of age Jason, Stefanie (Jake), Ian (Kim), Derek (Adria), Jordan (Jackie), Travis (Patti), Trisha, Tanis and Troy; Great Grandchildren Curtis and Kaelene; Brother Fred (Astrid), sister Winnifred, brother and sisters-in-law Norman and Hazel, Ellen, and Donna Steinthorson and special cousins Nina Broadfoot and Helen Porteous. Mum's home was always a magnet for kids, family, and friends. Everyone was always welcome in her home and many considered it their home away from home. Known as Amma to her grandchildren, mum always wanted her grand kids to feel as much at home at her place as their own. They would often walk in after school, expected or not, check out the cookie drawer and ask what's for dinner, and then to her delight, wonder what's for dessert. Her grand kids were very devoted to her. Mum had a strong work ethic and moral code, coupled with a terrific sense of humour. She was the anchor of our family and will forever be in our hearts. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Stonewall, Manitoba, followed by a lunch at the Stonewall Legion, interment to follow at St. Oswalds Cemetery.
