AUGUSTE (GUS) MARC THORIMBERT A good and faithful servant, Auguste Marc, passed away on Friday, October 25 in his usual style, humbly and with faith in the Lord. Gus was born April 25, 1923 in Notre Dames de Lourdes, Manitoba, to Auguste Sr and Clarisse Thorimbert, the youngest of six children. At sixteen years of age he met the love of his life, Marie Teillet, and they were married in the summer of 1943. Together, Auguste and Marie raised six children, Marc (Pat), Grace, Denise (Ken), Susanne (John), Paul (Noreen) and Louise (Tim). As a father, he instilled a love of music, dance and play, and most importantly he passed down his faith by how he modeled it daily. In their seventy years of marriage, they were blessed with 23 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way). He was predeceased by many loved ones, including his siblings Jean Joseph, Robert, Louis, Yvonne and Alice, and his sons-in-law Henri and Emile and his two grandsons James and Marc. Among his many accomplishments, he was a Second World War RCAF pilot and trainer of Free French Fighters. He then worked in the fire service as a fireman, eventually becoming Fire Commissioner of Manitoba and was instrumental in establishing the Fire College in Brandon. He was a councillor for St. Norbert, a Knight of Columbus, and very active in the Archdiocese of St. Boniface. What we will all remember most was how he met everything with a sense of humour, a twinkle in his eye, and with a firm belief in the Lord and devotion to the Blessed Virgin. A special thank you to the staff of the Palliative Care unit in St. Boniface Hospital and the Grace Hospice, for their incredible loving care of our dad during the last few months of his earthly life. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or the Grace Hospital Foundation. Please join us in celebrating the Mass of the Resurrection at Holy Cross Parish, 252 Dubuc in Winnipeg on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Todd Thorimbert, Jacqueline Beaudry, Kate Apalit. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Auguste Thorimbert was my first Scout Master in the mid-1950s at St-Eugene parish in St. Vital. I went to school with Marc and Grace and, as we lived only one street apart, we were often at each other's house. Mr. Thorimbert was always the gentleman, a man to emulate. I have fond memories of him taking us out on hikes and other Saturday morning scouting activities. He was a great role model and he left a long lasting impression on me as a husband and father. We have lost an upstanding citizen. Our consolation is that God has called him home. My sympathies go out to Marie, Marc, Grace and all of their families. - Posted by: Denis Robert (School friend of Marc and Grace) on: Nov 04, 2013

  • I am so Sorry for your loss Marie, Susanne, John and families. It was always so nice to see all four of you at the 7:50 A.M. Mass Sunday mornings. More recently it was just three of you, but I knew that Gus was not far away...and... He is still not far away. When I would see you, I knew that I was in the right place! Prayers and Blessings to/for you all. Charles - Posted by: charles Prefontaine (Fellow Parishoner at Holy Cross Parish, Winnipeg) on: Oct 29, 2013

  • This earth has lost a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He touched a lot of lives and was an amazing mentor to his family. May he be richly blessed in his Heavenly reward and may "the Peace of God, that surpasses all understanding" cover Marie and the family in this time of loss. xoxo - Posted by: Susan (Calder) and Brian Heaps (sister and brother-in-law to Suzanne and Louise, friends of the family) on: Oct 29, 2013

  • What a sweet, loving man he was!! He always had the cutest smile and such a warm heart. He is shining down on your family now, watching over you; a new guardian angel for his precious little ones. Much love in celebration of his long, happy and dedicated life. He was a true servant of God. - Posted by: Jennifer Yarish (Extended Family) on: Oct 29, 2013

  • Sincere condolences and prayers to Mrs. Thorimbert and family on the passing of Mr. Thorimbert. I recall with fondness during my days at St. Maurice School how he and Mrs. Thorimbert attended every activity -- great and small in which their Grandchildren were involved from simple prayer services to Christmas concerts, they were always there to support them. During those visits we always got an impromptu fire inspection regarding hung posters or stored equipment. Thank you for the memories Mr. Thorimbert. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Anne Hobson( Tizzard) (friend ) on: Oct 28, 2013
