ERNEST TAYLER Ernest Tayler passed away peacefully on October 26, 2013 at the age of 95. He is survived by Bernice his loving wife of 60 years, children Ronald and wife Deanna, daughter Janice and husband Max, grand-children Carly, Jason and wife Alison. Ernest was born in Otterburne, Manitoba and became a beekeeper at the age of 16. He played hockey as a young man. Ernest enlisted in the Canadian Army at the age of 26 and served with The Little Black Devils. He fought valiantly in the 1944 D-Day battle at Juno Beach. He was shot and the bullet remained in his shoulder the rest of his life. After the war he worked at The Winnipeg Post Office. He became an excellent curler, winning many trophies as skip of his team. After retirement he took up golf and like everything he did, he excelled at it. He enjoyed golfing with his family until the age of 91. By far his greatest pleasure was tending his beautiful flower and vegetable garden. He was happiest surrounded by nature and his loved ones. Funeral service will be held at the St. Philip's Anglican Church, 240 Tache Ave. on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ernest's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3. I had Ernie as my patient a couple of times. He was so sweet, he touched my heart. I'm sure he will be dearly missed. What a darling man. - Posted by: RN Maggie (nurse) on: Nov 02, 2013

I just wanted to express my sincere condolences Bernice on learning of the death of Ernest. My father remembers him well and Lou and Malcolm and I were reminiscing about the get-together in Maidenhead in 1984 that Olive arranged. I would be delighted to hear from you if possible. My thoughts are with you and the family at this sad time. - Posted by: Helen Urquhart nee Tayler (Daughter of cousin, James Tayler) on: Oct 30, 2013

I have vivid memories of Mr. Taylor keeping me in line as a child although he was always fair. I would annoyingly ask him often what he was doing and always got the same response, "I'm waiting on a bus" he would say. He will be missed by all who knew him. - Posted by: Derek H () on: Oct 29, 2013
