Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL REBEC It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of our dear father, brother and grandfather on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 87. Left to cherish his memory is his son Greg and daughter Kathryn Plant (Kerry) with grandchildren Karson and Kade. Mourning the loss of their brother are his brother Ivan and sister Maria in Ukraine, as well as numerous relatives in the United States. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents and brother, Walter. Mike was born on April 11, 1926 in the city of Zawadow in Western Ukraine. Upon his arrival in Winnipeg, he worked for Broadway Florists. He then chose to make a career working for the City of Winnipeg starting at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory and eventually retired from King's Park. Dad made friendships from both his co-workers and the general public with his knowledge of flowers and sense of humour. He always had a cigar in his mouth and with his knowledge of life, he became known as "Dr. Mike." Dad loved to travel and play cribbage. He enjoyed traveling to Texas and Mexico. If there was a cribbage board around, he would take on all comers. Mike was proud of his Ukrainian heritage. He belonged to Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, the Ukrainian Canadian Legion 141 and Institute Prosvita. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 5 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. A private family interment will take place. The family would like to extend a special thank to the Maples and Holy Family personal care homes and to Seven Oaks Hospital ER for the care and compassion our father received.
