AGNES VIVIAN COWAN (nee ANDERSON) March 7, 1928 - November 11, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our precious mother Agnes. She passed away peacefully at Concordia Place Nursing Home at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by Norman, her beloved husband; parents Ernest and Myrtle Anderson; brother Leonard, and sister Evelyn. Agnes is survived by her devoted children, Hollingsworth Cowan and Heather (Larry) Melnyk. Also left to cherish her memory are brothers Alwyn (Laura) and Kenneth (Eleanor); sister Gladys; sister-in-law Mary as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. Mom was born in Dubuc, Saskatchewan and grew up on the Anderson family farm with her parents, five siblings, and niece Darlene. Agnes began her education in a one room schoolhouse, and completed her Grade 12 as an adult in Winnipeg. Agnes moved to Winnipeg in her early years and worked as a clerk for Eaton's mail order department. It wasn't long before she met Norman, a C.N.R. employee who had returned from the war. Norman and Agnes married in 1953. They raised two children in their East Kildonan home and were married for 57 years until his passing in April 2010. Agnes enjoyed a full and creative life and had many varied interests including baking Swedish thin bread, music, reading current events, gardening and painting. She loved mystery movies, treasure hunting at local flea markets, jewelry making, the ladies bowling league, her bridge club and most importantly, her full time job as life coach for her children. Agnes loved to travel by train on her C.N.R. pass. Her favourite vacations were visiting relatives in Canada and the USA. Mom had a warm and generous disposition. She made friends easily and often. She had a keen sense of humour and a genuine smile that would light up a room. Agnes was a kind and gentle soul whose greatest love in life was her family. Special thanks to Concordia Hospital N3 and Concordia Place for the kindness and care they showed our mother in her last difficult months. We would also like to thank our family friend Elaine for her support and all those Sunday visits with mom. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society to celebrate her love of animals; Variety, the Children's Charity of Manitoba or the Concordia Foundation. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held. "Trust in The Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. He will direct your path". Proverbs 3:5. "God Bless you Momma, we'll love you forever and always". Bardal Funeral Home and Crematorium 843 Sherbrook Street, 204-774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
