STEWART GEORGE MCGILL March 7, 1947 - November 19, 2013 Stu passed away with his family at his side. Lovingly missed by his wife Kathy; his children: Linton (Jessica) (granddaughter Isla), Darren (Meghan), and Cynthia. He is survived by his parents: Stan and Vera; and siblings: Dianna (Wes), and Gerald (Sandy); along with many nieces and nephews. Stu's passions in life were his family, golf, cooking, and music. He was an avid performer most of his life starting with his band The Point Fives. Later in life, Stu performed in a musical theatre production in Wetaskiwin, AB. To his friends and family Stu was a celebrated foodie. As an adventurous eclectic chef, Stu loved to create new delights, especially on chemo days for "his girls" at CancerCare. He was passionate about the game of golf and enjoyed sharing his talents with his family. Stu also skied, played hockey, football, and coached various little league teams for his children. His animated laugh and continuous jokes filled a room with joy. All will miss his laughter and wacky sense of humour. The care and compassion provided by the staff and volunteers of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Ward allowed him to pass free of pain and with dignity. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the staff for their constant care and kindness to Stu and the family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, on Monday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Ward, or to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Although not close friends Stewart and I always had a congenial relationship at Transcona Collegiate. Then our paths crossed later as members of the Winnipeg Police Department. Always thought highly of Stewart and was saddened to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Blake Dunn (Schoolmate and workmate at Winnipeg Police Department) on: Jan 21, 2014

  • Thank you, Kathy, for allowing me to be part of Stu's last journey in life. I'm sorry not to have had a chance to say goodbye. God bless and keep you. - Posted by: LEslie Clark (Chaplain, St B) on: Nov 30, 2013

  • Had many good times with Stu and a couple were playing in a Police and Pal with amateurs Dan Halldarson and Gary Kulman at John Blumberg and another when I was bringing Stu's car to the arena after a big concert was moved there from the stadium and parking on the sidewalk in front of the arena and being taken back stage and later on the wings of the stage and seeing Led Zepplin and Janis Joplin preforming live. Did not know he was back in Manitoba and have fond memories of our times together. Also played golf with his younger brother Gerald who was an Asst. Pro at Pine Ridge Golf Club. My sympathies as losing too many of the old friends. - Posted by: Donald Finnbogason (Friend from the 60's) on: Nov 25, 2013

  • To Kathy, Linton, Darren, and Cynthia, Deeply sorry to hear of the loss of your husband and father. - Posted by: Roy () on: Nov 23, 2013
