Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWENDAL J. FEWSTER It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wendal Fewster on December 5, 2013 at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, 26 days short of his 84th birthday. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doreen; daughter Shirley Pipke (Bill), son Garth Fewster (Diane), and daughter Marsha Murray (Clinton); grandchildren Colleen Dyck (Grant), Ella Rempel (Roger), Daniel Fewster (Nigel), Kyla Murray, Brad Murray (Naomi), Sam Murray (Niki) and Brittany Houston; great-grandchildren Georgia, Oskar, Leo and Moses Dyck, Charlie, Remi and Nina Rempel, Boaz Fewster, Sierra and Barrett Murray, and Jackson Murray. Also surviving are his brothers Keith, Glenn and Del Fewster. He was predeceased by his parents, Milford and Alma Fewster and by his son, Rick Fewster. Wendal was born on December 31, 1929 and raised in Sperling, MB. After graduation from high school, he began working with his Dad, eventually taking over the family farm. In 1951 he married Doreen Watson of Rathwell. After retiring from farming, he spent several enjoyable years working for Sperling Welding. He was an active member of the community serving on many boards and with many organizations. Those positions he was most proud to have held were Secretary-Treasurer of the Sperling Curling Club, Secretary-Treasurer of the Sperling Cemetery, and 35 years as a member of the Sperling Fire Department, many of those as Fire Chief. Wendal loved a good book, a thick steak, and a big bowl of popcorn. He shared his love of hunting, fishing and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren, teaching many of them to shoot, bait a hook, fillet a fish, waterski and drive a boat and a snowmobile. His favourite place to be was at the cabin on Big Whiteshell where he created countless treasured memories for his family. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethesda for their loving care and concern. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sperling Cemetery Fund or the Sperling Fire Department, Sperling, MB R0G 2M0, or to a charity of one's choice. In keeping with Wendal's wishes, a casual memorial service (caps and jeans welcome) will be held at the Sperling Arena on Sunday, December 8 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date. Birchwood Funeral Chapel of Steinbach in care of arrangements.
