IRENE MARIE BOITEAU (nee GENTES) On Wednesday, December 11, 2013 with the love and comfort of her family around her, Irene Marie Boiteau, aged 89 years, beloved wife of the late David Joseph Boiteau, peacefully passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. She will forever be in the hearts of her eight children, Adele Presonka, Dorothee Boiteau (Dennis Lavallee), Louise Boiteau, Annette Prieur (Ray), Philippe Boiteau (Donna), Leo Boiteau (Lynn), Suzanne Coe (Donald), Michelle Gallego (Domingo) as well as 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mom was born in St. Vital on March 10, 1924, the youngest child of Ernestine Bernard and Philippe Gentes. At a young age, Mom attended Glenwood School. Mom had a wonderful childhood and had many lifelong friends that she still saw up until her passing. On September 4, 1943, at age 19, Mom married the love of her life David and together they shared a treasured life of 58 years of marriage. In 1954, Mom and Dad left Winnipeg and moved to Grand Marais, MB, where Dad became the Elementary School Principal. For 12 years Mom and Dad and their growing family enjoyed the friendship and joy of living in a small community. In 1966, the family moved back to Winnipeg. For many years, Irene was a wonderful stay at home Mom, but once all of the kids were married or in school Mom set out on a path of her own in the business world. She generally managed Christie School Supply for many years and also worked in Dr. Sinha's office. After she retired, Mom and Dad enjoyed many summers camping around the country and in the USA. Their favourite camping spot, however, was always Blue Lake, Ontario and a great many memories will be cherished from their time spent there. Both Mom and Dad loved creating things for the family and while Dad loved wood working, Mom's special gift at Christmas time was a beautiful Mary Maxim sweater and those who were lucky enough to receive one of Mom's beautiful sweaters will now cherish it even more. Sunday was always the most important day of the week for Mom. It was the day for family and it always meant a sit down dinner with the entire family every Sunday. In January, 2002, Mom moved to Meadowood Manor to be with Dad who was now in the personal care home next door. After the death of her dear David, Meadowood Manor became Mom's lifeline and reason for living. She got on every committee she could and was the personal greeter for all who came to the Manor. Mom was lovingly called Mrs. Meadowood and she called herself a CBC, Catholic Baptist Christian. No matter where Mom lived, a piece of her was always left behind. She was loved by everyone she met and they were touched by the love and kindness she showed to all. The family would like to thank Drs. Hochman, Forsyth, Hasdan and Audu, and Matt and the entire staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion given to Mom on this journey. Prayers will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road. Memorial Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Meadowood Manor, 577 St. Anne's Road in the Fellowship Hall, with Pastor David Holland and Rev. Fr. Fred Olds presiding. Cremation has already taken place. A private family interment to be held at a later date in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. I only discovered this announcement recently hence my late expression of condolences to the Boiteau Family. I have fond memories of the Boiteau Family going back to the nearly 1960's as a teenager holidaying on weekends at the Johnson cabin in Grand Marais. It was just across the way from Dave and Irene's home. I recall their kindness to a rowdy bunch of guys with little or no food, by supplying an occasional quart of milk and loaf of bread. Their kind generosity was not forgotten. I recall, as a member of the budding Fairlane Trio, playing in their family living room. It was a feat getting a set of drums, amplifiers and guitars in place as well as family and friends. We were well received by all. RIP Dave and Irene, Hope to see you on the other side. With fond memories, Richard “Dickie” Cornwell. - Posted by: Richard "Dickie" Cornwell (Aquaintance ) on: Sep 18, 2021

I met Phil early in my life and we became best of friends. I was immediately "adopted" as one of their clan. I was always welcomed in whatever was going on. I'll always remember the warmth I felt when I was in their home. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Rest in peace Mrs. B. - Posted by: Paul Vandale (family friend) on: Dec 31, 2013
