ALAN RICHARD FRASER MORROW
Born: Sep 03, 1946
Date of Passing: Dec 08, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALAN RICHARD FRASER MORROW After a seven month battle with cancer Alan Morrow passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2013, with his wife Patti at his side. Alan was predeceased by his parents Lloyd Richard Morrow in 1992 and Eleanor "Jeanne" Morrow in 2010. He leaves to cherish his memory best friend and wife of 18 years Patti Morrow and his precious "girls" Kobi and Kayli; his sisters Susan Duren of Seattle, Washington and Judith Goodenow of Los Angeles, California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; Alan's children Lisa (Scott) McCullough of Toronto and Kristofer Morrow of Vancouver. Alan was born in Vancouver, BC, on September 3, 1946, to Lloyd and Jeanne Morrow. As a young family the Morrows liked to camp and travelled extensively throughout the US and Canada. In 1957 the family packed up their belongings and moved to Tacoma, Washington. It was here that Alan completed both high school and went on to graduate from the Tacoma Junior College. After graduation Alan relocated to Vancouver where he began his working career with Northern Sales Co. Ltd. It was the beginning of a long, much loved career in the grain business which allowed him to feed his passion for travel. From Vancouver, there was one more move and he settled in Winnipeg where he resided until his passing. After his father Lloyd passed away in 1992, the family decided to take a trip together to Asia. They had travelled many times as a young family and now they were able to make lasting memories as adults. The trip was a special time they would all remember with great affection. Alan loved the grain business and at the height of his career was operating four offices, one in Denver, San Francisco, Vancouver and Winnipeg. He was an instrumental founding member of the Canadian Special Crops Association and was involved in the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. He believed strongly in the evolving special crops industry and in 1987 was key in leading a panel to design ground-breaking trade rules for the burgeoning business which, in a modified form, exist to this day. His work allowed him to travel extensively throughout Europe, Asia and India. He was an international business man. Alan was very successful as a grain broker, but this did not interfere with his willingness to help someone just starting up. He mentored many junior traders, was highly relational and enjoyed sharing his expertise. He was well respected. Alan was fun loving and learned to love the finer things in life. He owned a car before he was old enough to drive, a big gold Cadillac. He liked to party and enjoyed fine wine, Chardonnay to be exact. He collected bone china and was a wonderful cook. He was generous, kind, comfortable in his own skin and free to express his feelings and emotions. To relax Alan enjoyed reading, boating and his back yard. He spent much of his creative energy designing a most beautiful space for Patti and him to enjoy. Unfortunately, due to his illness, he was unable to spend as much time as he would have liked by the pool. It will serve as a reminder to Patti of his deep love for her and their life together. He will be deeply missed! Thank you to all of our friends and neighbours who have helped us during this difficult time. Funeral service for Alan Morrow will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013, at the McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Ave., in Winnipeg at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow. Interment to be held after the reception at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
