ANGUS (DUKE) MOAR November 28, 1948 - December 17, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of Duke Moar on December 17, 2013 at the age of 65 years. Duke is survived by his loving wife Margaret and beloved son Shane, mother-in-law Elizabeth, brother Charlie (Donna), brother-in-law Gary, sisters-in-law Jeannie, Lucille, Lorena, Darlene and Catherine, as well as his much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his furry companion Marley. Duke was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Ruby, brothers Alfred, Alex and Hank, his sisters Margie, Nancy, Emily, Mary and Dorothy and brothers-in-law Bing, Jimmy and nephew Brent. Duke was the youngest child of a family of ten or like his brothers and sisters called him "the baby". He was born in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB but spent his childhood years in Kinosota, MB. Duke spoke often of how he waited for his older brothers to arrive home for the weekend from the city. They would offer him money to shine their shoes and make them breakfast, which he did with enthusiasm. He was then invited to play cards with his brothers and was always a winner. Duke was a man with a great work ethic as he strived to provide the best for his family. He spent the majority of his working life as an owner/operator truck driver for Lakehead Freightways and lastly Dynamex. He was a dedicated employee who was reliable and honest but above all a great co-worker. He was forced to take an early retirement in 2008 due to health issues. Duke was best known for playing his spoons. He could crack those things on his knee like no other. He enjoyed singing and listening to a wide variety of music. In Duke's earlier years he loved to play darts with his family and friends. At first it was a fun activity but soon he became a strong contender in many tournaments in Winnipeg and the province. He in fact won medals competing in the Provincial Dart Championships for Manitoba Dart Association (MDA). Once Duke became a father his attention turned to his son and all of his sporting activities. One could always see Duke in the stands cheering on his son Shane. He tried not to miss any sporting events as his boy was number one. Duke's attendance to these games brought him a certain reputation with the other players as they could see the dedication and commitment he had for his son. Duke was a father to many. His gentle demeanor attracted many young adults to seek his advice. He was a humble man who did not realize the impact he had on others. Duke loved to tell jokes but he liked to have his audience be attentive and eager for his punch line. He always had a smile on his face and greeted others with much enthusiasm. Duke loved to tease and be teased. Either way one received a hardy laugh with Duke's characteristic chuckle. Above all he was a man with great integrity and respect for others. The greatest accomplishment in his life...being a superb husband and father! The family would like to thank Dr. J. Embil and Dr. C. Hildahl for their dedication and supportive care. As well, thanks to the CCU (5th floor) at St. Boniface Hospital for their thorough and compassionate attention. A memorial service will held Saturday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler at Henderson Hwy. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Duke's name to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Good Night Sweetheart - See You In The Morning!

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • My words alone cannot express how very sorry I am for your loss....and what a huge loss it is. I will never forget Duke's laugh, a laugh that could always put a smile on my face. Duke had such a genuine love for children. I remember watching him with Shane on his knee...singing that silly song "Old Man Tucker"........Old man Tucker was a fine old man....he washed his face with a frying pan.....he combed his hair with wagon wheel....I never understood that song ....I only know how much the kids loved to hear him sing it...I remember him putting my kids on his knee and my grandson too singing that song. How they would laugh when Uncle Duke sang that song. And when they were too big to put on his knee, he would get the spoons and belt out that silly song. I'll miss you...I pray that your rest is peaceful and that you know how much we love you Always in our hearts Kitty, Anthony, Allison, Dylan and Aria.....R.I.P Uncle Duke - Posted by: catherine parent (sister-in-law) on: Dec 21, 2013

  • To Margaret & Shane, When we think of Duke we can see his friendly smile. We shared lots of fun socializing with him, playing darts and cards or just listening to him telling jokes. • Caviar, caviar comes from a sturgeon. Sturgeon, sturgeon, mighty fine fish, that's why caviar is my favorite, that's why caviar is my dish.! Duke sang this song so many times, and it always made me laugh. I will always remember Duke every time I hear the words; Caviar or Sturgeon. Rest in Peace Duke, and enjoy a big bowl of caviar. You were a great friend and we will miss you. - Posted by: Liz Chammartin (Friend) on: Dec 20, 2013
