ALEXANDRIA (ALEX) CECILE SANDERSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexandria (Alex) Cecile Sanderson on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the young age of 18 years. Alex was survived by her beloved parents Art and Tracy, brother Derrick, sisters Nicole and Kelsie, nephew Parker and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Melissa, Grandparents Edgar and Madeline Sanderson, Grandpa Donald Bergen, and Godparents Florence and Bill Hanslip. Alex was born on July 7, 1995 in Winnipeg. She moved to Petersfield with her family when she was three. She attended William S. Patterson for elementary, Lockport Junior High and Lord Selkirk Comprehension High School. Alex had many, many friends that she held dearly to her. Everyone who knew her loved her big heart and infectious smile. Alex loved to spend her time with the love of her life, her nephew Parker. She was always proud to talk about all the fun moments they spent together. Alex's family meant so much to her, she was known as everyone's Kitty Kat. She loved spending time with her immediate and extended family going camping and on vacations, watching movies, and just hanging out. She was the baby of the family. She had a quiet gentle spirit and could often be found cuddling with her mommy or daddy. Alex graduated in June 2013 with honours. She began her first year at the University of Winnipeg in September and received two scholarships for her outstanding grades. She recently started working at Ikwe Widdjiitiwin, a Women's Shelter because her dream was to become a Social Worker to continue helping others. Alex will be remembered for her caring and loving nature. A funeral service will be held at St. John's Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. in Winnipeg at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013. Pallbearers are Mark Ducharme, Danny Chartrand, Byron Thomas, David Trudeau, Justin Creran, and Dennis Frost. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME STONEWALL 204-467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

  • It is with both sadness and respect that the Board of Ikwe Widjiitiwin acknowledges the passing of Alex, our beloved student intern. An academic scholar, Alex brought to the shelter a gentle spirit and a keen enthusiasm for the social work she hoped would one day impact her community. Alex was a role model to all the young women who came to our shelter seeking the hope and resilience that is the soul of Aboriginal women.
