Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONA BAKER (nee JOHNSON) April 20, 1948 - December 21, 2013 Peacefully, surrounded by her family, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Leona Baker passed away on December 21, 2013 at age 65. Left to treasure her memory is her loving husband of 44 years, Larry, her children Helga (Liam) and Brett, her grandchildren Jorja, Lawrence, Hayden and Brendan, brothers and sisters, Jack (Dee), Bob (Anita), Anne Williams (Steve), Valerie Eyford (Brian), Eric, Kris (Mandy), Sue Lavallee, Joe (Cheryl) and Larry (Lorraine), also numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Leona was predeceased by her father Emil in June, 2004 and by her mother Anna in January, 2011. Leona grew up in Oak Point on the family farm, moving to Winnipeg after high school to pursue her career as an Administrative Professional. Her and her family moved to Woodlands in 1981 where she spent most of her life. They eventually moved to Stonewall and ending up in Balmoral. Leona was a kind hearted, generous woman who loved being surrounded by family and friends. She was very involved with her community and always helped others, being very devoted to her parents, family and friends. She loved watching her grandchildren having fun at the family cabin in Sugar Point and was a proud Amma. Leona fought very hard to overcome her illnesses through the years as she was surrounded by love from her children, grandchildren, family and numerous friends. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital Dialysis Unit for all their care and compassion; there were like family to Leona. We would also like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Intensive Care Unit who provided excellent care during her last days. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Interlake Community Foundation, Box 1575, Stonewall MB, R0C 2Z0 where an endowment fund will be established in memory of Leona.
