Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMAN HAFSTEIN STEINTHORSON September 18, 1928 - December 22, 2013 Norman Hafstein Steinthorson, born September 18, 1928, passed away after a short illness at age 85. Norman leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 58 years, Hazel, their children Mary Lee and Allen. Norman was Afi to Clayton (Laura), Jonas (Jamie), Erik, Kristopher, Garett, Brandon, Corey and Great Afi to Alexis, Payton and Emilie. He also leaves to mourn many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Norman is predeceased by both his parents, his seven brothers and two sisters and his son Karl. Norman was born in Eriksdale, MB to John and Inga Steinthorson of Vogar, MB. He worked on the family farm until his early 20's. Norman's sense of adventure called him to the North; where he worked in the mines at Lynn Lake for 42 years. In 1953, Norman met the love of his life, Hazel Scharkowski. They were soulmates and they decided to marry in 1955. Norman and Hazel built their home by the lake. He loved to sit and watch the loons and enjoyed his yard. Norman and Hazel were blessed with three lovely children whom he adored. Norman spent many hours fixing boats and skidoos to keep them busy. In 1990, we relocated to Teulon, MB, due to Norman's poor health. In 1991, Norman and Hazel's empty nest was filled with Clayton and Jonas. Norman kept busy with the house renos and his yard. His pride and joy. The family would like to thank Dr. Loudon and the staff at Teulon Hospital for their care of Norman, you were just wonderful in every way thank you, thank you. In keeping with Norman's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral service. A private family service will take place in the summer at Lynn Lake. Norman wished to be buried next to his son Karl and his brother Joe. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME TEULON (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

A tribute to a very fine gentleman and excellent tradesman. I worked with Norman at the Fox mine hoist room while installing the new man hoist in 1967-68. I was an apprentice Machinist-Millwrite at the time, I worked side by side with Norman while we set up the new hoist which came in wooden crates from Scotland. We went thru all the parts systematically, cleaned and did our check lists to make sure all parts were accounted for! After about six months Norman sat at the controls like a proud Grandpapa. We never had one hiccup during the installation. I never had the privlege working with a more dedicated, meticulous workmate. my experience with Norman carried on in my own life's business as a owner-operater of a sucessful Machine shop never forgetting Norman's words of guidance (if you do it right you only do it once) RIP Norman - Posted by: Ray Mazurek (a friend and working buddy from 1966 to 1975) on: Jan 29, 2014

Norm, as were all his family, old friends of the Boe family. Norm was my best hoistman as we worked at the EL mine and we enjoyed many shifts (years) of "besting" the most skips in a shift, at the old "EL". I think a few other skip tenders would make the same boast, as we all tried for the 'record' and Norm did his best to accommodate us all. Bless his Soul, and his family. I will always remember Norman ready to help when I would pick up the cinnomin buns that Hazel had baked and he was busy packing. He spoke with such pride at what Hazel was doing and what she was able to accomplish with her hands. - Posted by: Marilyn Warkentin (a friend and lover of the baking from that house) on: Dec 28, 2013
