  • The love for my brother: Brothers and sisters, I have a story to tell. It's the story about a big brother and the baby of the family. The big brother was Winston, the eldest son of ten children In the village of Tableland in south Trinidad. And the baby of the family was yours truly. I fondly recall memories of my big brother who would hoist me upon his strong shoulders from which I had an entirely different view of my world. The world of Tableland, a happy place at the time from my brother's sturdy and comforting shoulders. At times he would give me rides on his back. Which I enjoyed immensely, and so started a close relationship between Winston and myself - A relationship which was to last throughout the years that he lived in Trinidad and continued when we both settled in Winnipeg. In search of employment, Winston had to leave the family home in Tableland at an early age. He was very good at fixing things and with his knowledge of motor mechanics, he was able to find placement with the largest car dealership in the city of San-Fernando in south Trinidad. Motor Mechanics became a life-long career for Winston. Soon after settling in Canada, he was employed at at a successful Mechanic Shop Penners in Winnipeg. When I left Winnipeg and came to live in Toronto we kept in touch. Many people may not know it but Winston loved fishing and spent many happy hours on Lake Kenora and other places in Manitoba where he could throw out his line and catch some big ones. I must tell you that Winston was not averse to taking a few drinks with friends and he also spent happy hours at some of the watering holes in Winnipeg. Winston never got married but he was the kind of man who would have made a fine husband and a wonderful father. He was loyal to his friends including his confidante, Eric. And he will be sorely missed by those who knew and appreciated his friendship. My love for my big brother will never die. Goodbye Winston, Goodbye big brother. - Posted by: margaret kelly (Margaret Yullie Kelly (sister)) on: Jan 07, 2014
