ROBERT (BERT) W.M. BARKER Robert (Bert) W.M. Barker passed away at Golden West Nursing Home on November 16, 2013 at the age of 89. Bert is predeceased by his sister Lillian Robertson. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce W. Barker (Rhodes), sons Paul (Ana Marie) and Blake, grandchildren Jordan (Christine) and Nicholas, and great-grandchild Chloe. Bert was born in Stonewall, Manitoba on February 6, 1924, attended Phipps School and graduated from Stonewall High School. He lived most of his life in Lilyfield on the Barker family farm from 1924 - February 2006, when, with his wife moved to Winnipeg to live in the Kiwanis Villa. In 2011 Bert was moved into the Golden West Nursing Home. He was a long time member of Lilyfield Church and enjoyed curling at the Gordon Rink. He loved riding his Harley and Indian Motorcycles with his friends, and they rode down to Florida one time picking and eating oranges. Bert farmed for most of his life on the Barker family farm that his grandfather purchased in 1891. He took great pride in the work he did, tending to the animals and harvesting the crops in order to provide for his family. Together, with his father, he built the home where his children and grandchildren have had many wonderful memories and it still stands today. He was proud that the land his grandfather had purchased is still owned and farmed by the 4th generation of Barkers. Service will be held at the MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm. The family wishes to thank all the staff of the Golden West Nursing Home for their wonderful care of Bert and the many kindnesses shown to Joyce.
