MARY (MIN) KARABIN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Karabin on Friday, December 27, 2013, at Holy Family Home, aged 99 years. Mary was born in Winnipeg on August 12, 1914. She was raised and educated in East Kildonan and resided there until she entered Holy Family Home in November 2007. Family and friends also knew her by Min or Minnie. In her early years she was employed by Childs Restaurant and later employed with the Federal Government, Employment Insurance until her retirement in 1979. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church and a dedicated member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada for 65 years. Mary also enjoyed weekly perogy making and her trips to Shooting Star with many good friends. Min is survived by two sisters, Sonya of Guelph, ON and Catherine (Kay); nieces, Carol (Dennis), Virginia (John), and Patti; nephew, Douglas (Mississauga); grand-nieces and nephews, Lisa, Sean and Kyla Tomlinson, Douglas (Connie, and son Evan) Fleese and Margaret (Kevin, son and daughter Conor and Katie) Hickey. She was predeceased by her son Gary; parents, Peter and Anna; brothers, George and Michael; sister-in-law, Florence and brothers-in-law, Peter and Joe. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 10 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Ave at Watt Street officiated by Rev. Dr. M. Kwiatkowski. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Eucharist Church or Holy Family Home. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Sister Charlene and Maria Kowch, Pastoral Care and Holy Family Home 4A Staff for taking such good care of her.
