GERTRUDE ADRIAN-COUSINS It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, at the Victoria Hospital on January 10, 2014. Left to mourn are her four brothers, Henry (Anne), John, Jake, George (Florence), two sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Sam) and Laurie (Len), her four children Ruth Virginia (Jeff), John (Ruth Joy), Steve (Ann), Paula (Larry), seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jack (2000), her parents, Heinrich (1965) and Emily (Retzlaff) Adrian (1939), Elizabeth (Isaac) Adrian (1979), three sisters: Kathie, Eva, Elsa and three brothers: Leonard, Herman, and Samuel. Gertrude was born in Gnadenthal, MB, in 1932 and then moved with her family to Elm Creek where she completed her schooling. Gertrude was baptized in 1958 upon the confession of her faith. She worked many years for the Billy Graham Association Winnipeg Office, where she was the office manager for the entire Canadian Operations. In 1982 she married Jack Cousins who also worked for the Billy Graham Association. They were married in Kansas City and she was then blessed with an instant family. The next few years Gertrude and Jack lived in many cities in the U.S. and Canada pre-planning the Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusades. This meant moving every few years, making new friends at each location. Their last years were spent working at the Billy Graham Headquarters in Minneapolis. After Jack's death, Gertrude moved back to Winnipeg where she resided until her passing. A memorial service will be held at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Ave., at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014. A lunch will follow the service with Interment at the Elm Creek Cemetery. Donations may be made in Gertrude's name to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association of Canada. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I met Gert in 2002 at the 55+ class at Grant Memorial Baptist Church. She faithfully served with the Senior's ministry and was a beautiful witness for The Lord wherever she went. She glowed! She faithfully supported our ministry of Ambassadors for Christ Canada attending prayer meetings as well as financial support. Gert has been faithfully building up treasures in Heaven in her journey on earth and now she is able to bask in the presence of The Lord, her personal treasure! Thank you Gert for your faithful witness that serves as an example that challenges and inspires me to live well and finish well! See you in Heaven! - Posted by: Linda Hamilton (Friend) on: Jan 16, 2014

  • I only got to know "Gertie" during the last 10 yrs of her life, but I became very aware of her unwavering faith and trust in God, her depth of kindness, humour and Goodwill. Although she has left this earth for her heavenly home, her "light" will never leave me and all who love her. Maria Giesbrecht. - Posted by: Maria Giesbrecht (Friend ) on: Jan 15, 2014
